Las Vegas and New Hampshire won big, combining to score 26. Meanwhile, the lower affiliates fought their opponents hard and lost two games by three runs, combined.
Tacoma 4 @ Las Vegas 11 – Boxscore
Mike MacDonald bent, but did not break. He surrendered 11 hits over 5.2 innings, but only four runs. He also struck out four. Much of the damage came in Tacoma’s three-run third inning, where top prospect Dustin Ackley drove in a pair and scored a pair. Wil Ledezema and Rommie Lewis combined to pitch 3.1 hitless innings of relief with 5 strikeouts.
Every Las Vegas batter got a hit, with four 51’s putting up multi-hit efforts. Brett Lawrie went 1-for-4 with a run and a walk, while Travis Snider counted a lone single. David Cooper was 1-for-4 with a double, walk and 3 RBI. Brian Jeroloman and Chris Woodward each had a lone hit, with Jeroloman also coaxing a walk and plating twice, while Wooodward cashed a double and drove in a run. Jason Lane had a pair of doubles, a run scored and an RBI, while Manny Mayorson had two singles, an RBI and two runs scored. Adam Loewen and Dan Perales each had three hits. Perales had a double, a walk and an RBI, while Loewen had two doubles, a run scored, a walk and 4 RBI.
New Britian 3 @ New Hampshire 15 – Boxscore
The Fisher Cats and the Rock Cats combined for 30 hits, but there was a more equitable distribution in that category than amongst the runs, as the Fisher Cats had 17 and the Rock Cats 13. Chad Beck improved to 5-0 and still has not lost at Double-A. He allowed nine hits over 6.1 innings, but only walked one batter. He struck out five and only gave up one run. Evan Crawford and Bobby Korecky finished the game, with Crawford allowing both runs over 1.2 innings.
Despite an average of nearly two hits per batter, Darin Mastroianni, Anthony Gose, Yan Gomes and Mark Sobolewski all notched one hit. Adeiny Hechevarria went 2-for-4 with two runs, a double, a walk and 2 RBI. John Tolisano had a couple hits, a run and 3 RBI. Travis d’Arnaud had a single, a home run and a walk, but also scored three times and drove in three runs. Moises Sierra went 3-for-4 with a walk, a pair of doubles, 2 RBI and three runs. Mike McDade was 4-for-5 with 2 runs, a double and 3 RBI.
Dunedin 2 @ St. Lucie 4 – Boxscore
Dunedin couldn’t muster much of an offence in this game, only scratching out six hits and scoring a run in the top of the eight and ninth, as the team was down 4-0 and attempting a comeback. Ryan Goins was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Joe Bowen, Ivan Contreras, Brad McElroy and Kenny Wilson had the other hits. Bradley Glenn, Justin Jackson and Sean Ochinko were among the Lugnuts held hitless. The game ended with Contreras on third, Wilson on second and Goins at the plate, but he flew out representing the go-ahead run.
Deck McGuire started for Dunedin and went 5.2 innings. He allowed three runs, two earned on nine hits and three walks. Allowing over two baserunners an inning isn’t a recipe for success, so Scott Gracey came in an gave up only one hit over 2.2 innings. Unfortunately, that hit was a solo homer.
Lansing 4 @ Bowling Green 5 – Boxscore
Casey Lawrence started and, while he only made it through 4 innings, he stuck out 8 batters. Lawrence allowed six hits and three runs, walked a pair and gave up a home run. Marcus Walden gave up two runs over 3 innings, while Ross Tunrbull pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth.
A third of Lansing’s nine hits came off the bat of KC Hobson, who also walked. Marcus Knecht added a double, a single, a walk and a run scored and Bryson Namba had a double, single, a walk and an RBI. As those three players had seven of the nine hits, the evening saw 0-fers from Macus Brisker, Kevin Nolan and Michael Crouse. Carlos Perez and Oscar Dominguez added singles. Every Lugnut in the starting lineup except for Namba drew a walk, in a positive sign.
