The Blue Jays have never had a 50 home run hitter before. Now they do. Thanks for the great season, José! Here's a tribute to your amazing achievement.
José Facts:
- José's 1975 hit "50 Ways to Smack Dingers" reached #1 on the Hot 100 Singles Chart and was certified gold.
- #50 happens to be the number of current Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Jonas
Gustavsson. Does this mean the Goose will record 50 shutouts this year?
HIGHLY LIKELY.
- The
50th element of the periodic table is Tin. Tin's chemical symbol is Sn,
which just so happens to appear not once but twice in JoSné BautiSnta's
name. Coincidence? I think not.
- A special edition of Labatt 50 will be released for a limited period of time in honour of José's achievement, featuring a retro-style bottle and a modified logo:
- A "Golden Jubilee" historically refers to 50 years of rule. Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty accomplished this feat over 2000 years ago, from 141-91 BC. José Bautista is already 1/50 of the way there. (actually (1 1/6)/50 (that's 7/300) including last September)
- Did you know that 50 is the smallest number that is the sum of two non-zero square numbers in two distinct ways? 50 = 1^2 + 7^2 = 5^2 + 5^2 = JOSÉ BAUTISTA
- José grew 1 foot each time he hit a home run, and then he ate a city. Probably Hamilton because, you know, who wants to go there.
Anyway, I just wanna say congratulations José! It's been a pleasure watching you smack baseballs really really far this whole year. What a season. Regardless of what happens in the future, whether you fall off a cliff and are out of the majors by 2012 or continue to be a force at the plate, whether you stay with the Jays until the blue cap is on your Hall of Fame plaque or split town as soon as you get the chance to cash in, we've loved every minute of 2010.
