Three of the five baseball games on the farm last night went into extra innings, combining for 40 innings. Meanwhile, the two games that didn’t go into extra innings very well could have, as Nashville scored 3 in the 9th inning to take a victory away from Las Vegas. In Auburn, the game was tied going into the 9th inning. Brooklyn scored a run in the 9th to take the lead, before Auburn scored two in the bottom of the inning for a walk-off win.
Nashville 6 @ Las Vegas 4 – Boxscore
It was a heavy-hitting game in Las Vegas as each team pounded out 12 hits in the game. Robert Ray started for the 51s and surrendered 7 hits over 5 innings. Nashville scored 3 runs off Ray, although the team did have 6 strikeouts. Rommie Lewis threw 2.1 scoreless innings before turning the ball over to Jeremy Accardo. Accardo took a blown save as he allowed 3 runs in the 9th inning.
Every 51 had a hit during the game. Jason Lane, Chris Lubanski and Dan Perales each had 2 hits, all of them going 2-for-4. Lane had a pair of RBIs and Perales drove in a run, as well. Mike McCoy was 1-for-5 with a solo shot and Jarrett Hoffpauir was 1-for-4 with a double, a walk and a pair of runs scored. Mike Jacobs, Brad Emaus and Aaron Mathews each went 1-for-4, with Emaus adding a triple and a run.
New Hampshire 3 @ Richmond 5 (14 innings) – Boxscore
New Hampshire headed into the 9th inning losing 3-1 to Richmond. Matt Liuzza had hit a solo home run in the 2nd inning to give the Fisher Cats their only run up to that time. Shawn Bowman led off the 9th inning with a solo home run to pull the Fisher Cats within one. Adam Loewen then drew a walk and David Cooper followed with a double that scored the Canadian outfielder. However, the Fisher Cats were unable to cash Cooper with the winning run. It was not a pretty day at the plate for many New Hampshire batters, as Adeiny Hechevarria, Loewen, Jonathan Diaz and Callix Crabbe combined to go 0-for-21 and Loewen struck out 4 times in 5 at-bats. Darin Mastroianni, Eric Thames, Bowman and Cooper each had two hits, but all except for Cooper’s aforementioned double were singles.
Rey Gonzalez started for the Fisher Cats and allowed 8 base runners over 6 innings. Richmond got 6 hits and two runs off Gonzalez. Clint Everts came in for 0.2 innings and allowed one run on one hit. He was followed by Boomer Potts, who threw 1.1 innings of scoreless relief. Then came Danny Farquhar and his 3 inning of scoreless relief that included 5 strikeouts against one hit and one walk. Ronaldo Uviedo came in to pitch the 12th and wound up pitching the rest of the game. He wound up taking the loss by surrendering a 2-run home run to hot-hitting Brandon Belt in the 14th inning, but before that had thrown 2.2 scoreless innings, striking out 5.

Lansing 5 @ Dayton 2 (11 innings) – Boxscore
Drew Hutchison made his first start for the Lugnuts since his promotion from Auburn and showed he wasn’t out of place. Hutchison went 5 innings and struck out 5 batters. He didn’t allow a hit or a walk. Brian Slover relieved Hutchison and gave up a run on four hits over 2 innings. Steve Turnbull came in for the 8th with Lansing holding a one run advantage and promptly surrendered the lead. Turnbull, who stayed in the game for the 9th, struck out three batters over 2 innings. Casey Beck pitched the 10th and 11th, picking up the win with 2 innings of 3-hit ball that included 3 strikeouts.
Sean Ochinko and Bradley Glenn both had two hits for Lansing’s only multi-hit performances. Ochinko and Glenn each went 2-for-5, although Glenn upstaged Ochinko with a triple, a home run, 2 runs and 3 RBI. Kevin Ahrens, Jake Marisnick, KC Hobson and Karim Turkmani each had one hit, with Hobson driving in a pair. Kevin Nolan, Michael Crouse and Justin Jackson were held hitless, although Jackson drew a pair of walks. During the key 11th inning, Jackson led off with a walk and then Ochinko singled. Glenn tripled home both runners before coming around to score on a sacrifice fly by Hobson.
Brooklyn 5 @ Auburn 6 – Boxscore
Daniel Webb started for Auburn and left without a decision, which leaves him still searching for his first victory after 10 starts for the Doubledays. Webb pitched much better today than he did during some of his previous starts. He surrendered 6 hits and two runs, one earned on one of Jonathan Jones’s two errors in the game. Webb struck out five and walked two. Mike Kelly relieved Webb and allowed two hits over 2 innings. Kelly also allowed two runs, one earned. Zach Anderson didn’t allow a run in his 1 inning, but he allowed an inherited runner to score and wound up with a blown save. Dayton Marze got the victory after allowing the Cyclones to score a run in the top of the 9th inning.
Marze got the victory because Auburn scored two runs in the bottom of the 9th. Stephen McQuail began the inning by reaching on an error and was replaced by pinch runner Marcus Brisker. A pair of singles by Lance Durham and Joseph Bowen – Bowen’s on a sacrifice bunt that turned into a hit – loaded the bases and each was replaced by a pinch-runner (Jonathan Fernandez and Yeico Aponte, respectively). Jones was hit by a pitch, which tied the game and kept the bases full with none out. Gustavo Pierre launched a sacrifice fly that scored Fernandez and Auburn had a walk-off win.
As Gerry mentioned in the last MLU thread, the Doubledays faced Panamanian lefty Angel Cuan who features a plus curveball and entered the game with a 1.66 ERA. Cuan was effective through 4 innings, but was hit around in the 5th when the Doubledays cashed four runs on Durham’s grand slam. Cuan ended up with 7 strikeouts over 7 innings. Durham was one of two Doubledays, along with Oliver Dominguez, to have 2 hits in the game.

DSL Blue Jays 4 @ DSL Angels 5 (15 innings) – Boxscore
It was not the prettiest game, as the two teams combined for 10 errors, although it was an exciting match, as the teams were tied 3-3 after 6, remained that way through 10, swapped runs in the 11th inning and then had three more scoreless frames before the Angels won in the bottom of the 15th inning. Five pitchers split the game for the DSL Blue Jays, each throwing between 2.1 and 3.2 innings. Eyerys Guerrero, the starter, had the best line of the night, pitching 3 innings and striking out 3 while allowing one hit, no runs and no walks. Fausto Natera and Alvaro Blanco, the 1 and 2 hitters in the lineup, combined for 5 of the team’s 10 hits. Natera was 2-for-7 with a run and Blanco was 3-for-5 with a home run, 2 runs, 2 RBI and a walk.
