A strong start by Henderson Alvarez and some listless D-Jays bats were some notable events on a 3-1 Sunday.

Rain, I presume. The 51s probably don't mind being on the road. It was 41 degrees celcius in Sin City today.
Altoona 4 New Hampshire 5
The Fisher Cats pulled one out on Sunday with three runs in the bottom of the 8th thanks to an RBI single from Adam Loewen and a two-run knock by Jonathan Jaspe. Danny Farquhar started off the ninth shakily with a single and a walk but then struck out the next three batters for his 14th save.
Ronald Uviedo, new to the organization thanks to the Dana Eveland trade, made his first start after pitching exclusively in relief to date this season. Uviedo, 23, has had an odd career. It started in 2005 with the Mariners organization. In the Venezuelan Summer League, Uviedo went 4-3 with an ERA of 2.76 in 10 starts. He was subsequently released and signed by the Pirates who bounced him back and forth between starting and relieving. Weird that the Pirates would mess with someone's development. In any event, he made 18 starts in 2009 in AA and fared well but was still bumped to the 'pen to start 2010. I like this move by the Jays. Might as well see what they've got. It's not like the last trade with the Pirates hasn't worked out.
So, Uviedo went three innings today and allowed three runs on a hit and three walks while striking out one. But, not to fear, Bubbie Buzachero swooped in and went four innings allowing just a hit and a walk.
No huge standouts at the plate but Callix Crabbe, Eric Thames, and Adam Loewen each had two hits. Shawn Bowman was 0-for-2 but walked twice, scored a run, and drove in another. David Cooper was 1-for-4 with a double to (kinda) continue his (somewhat) resurgence.
St. Lucie 3 Dunedin 2 (13 innings)
Dunedin managed 4 hits in 13 innings. I should probably stop the recap right there. I won't, though but I'm not going to burn many calories on this one. John Tolisano reached base twice thanks to a single and a walk and stole two bases. Yan Gomes had a double. Adeiny Hechavarria singled once in 6 ABs.
Henderson Alvarez started and pitched pretty effectively going 6 innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out five. Chad Beck and Matthew Daly each threw two scoreless innings before Ross Buckwalter eventually took the loss in his third inning of work.
Quad Cities 6 Lansing 8
Lots of doings in this one, and most featured guys named Ryan. The Lugnuts smacked three homers on the day, off the bats of Mark Sobolewski, Balbino Fuenmayor, and Sean Ochinko. Ryan Goins had two triples and three RBI while Ryan Schimpf had three hits. A.J. Jimenez was 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Ryan Tepera started but lasted only two innings for some reason, allowing two runs on three hits with two strikeouts. Egan Smith, a fairly intriguing prospect making his 2010 debut, picked up the win in relief with four innings of two run ball. He walked one and struck out three. Steve Turnball finished things off for his 14th save.
DSL Tigers 2 DSL Blue Jays 4
The DSL Jays were outhit 10-4 but made the most of their baserunners, thanks in part to four stolen bases. Gonzalo Gonzalez (wicked name) was 1-for-3 with a double, two RBI and a walk. Leonardo Ferrini went 0-for-1 but walked three times.
Cesar Sanchez started and went four allowing a run on three hits with three strikeouts and no walks. Luis Mendez one-upped him with four innings of his own allowing just three hits while striking out three for the victory.
