All the affiliates other than Las Vegas won. Lansing blew a lead in the eighth inning but came back to win in the 13th. Adam Calderone with two home runs and Bobby Bell with seven good innings led New Hampshire to victory. Dunedin won despite Chuck Huggins not having his best start. Mike McDade led the hitters with four hits including a home run.
Jarrett Hoffpauir led off the bottom of first inning with a home run. That held up until the third when Iowa scored five runs off starter Marty McLeary. The defense didn't help McLeary, two errors in the inning made only one of the five runs earned. McLeary gave up another run in the fourth and one more in the fifth.
JP Arencibia homered to lead off the bottom of the fourth to make it a 6-2 game. Las Vegas scored two more in the fifth. Zach Jackson relieved McLeary and pitched three shutout innings. David Purcey gave up an unearned run in the ninth.
Hoffpauir had three hits, Brian Dopirak and Jesus Merchan had two each.
Bobby Bell had his best start of the season in this game. Bell went seven innings and gave up two runs on a home run. Bell allowed six hits and one walk with four strikeouts. Trystan Magnuson relieved Bell and pitched the eighth, Vincent Bongiovanni pitched the ninth.
Adam Calderone led the offense in this game. Calderone had a solo home run in the first inning and added a two run shot in the fourth. Brad Emaus hit a two run shot in the first as well. Every starter had a hit for the Fisher Cats who recorded eleven hits in total. Other than Calderone, Eric Thames had two hits.
Chuck Huggins started and cruised through four shutout innings. But in the fifth his control appears to have deserted him. He hit a batter but then got two outs. Then walk, single, walk, single, single put four runs on the board. Huggins was gone after five innings having put on ten baserunners. His ERA jumped to 2.70.
Dunedin jumped out to the lead in the second inning, Justin McClanahan tripled and Wellinton Ramirez doubled him home. The Jays added three more runs in the fourth, Mike McDade doubled, McClanahan had an rbi single, Ramirez doubled, again, Raul Barron had an rbi single and the third run scored on a wild pitch. In the fifth McDade hit a two run home run to make it 6-0.
After Huggins gave up four runs, Chad Beck gave up another (in three innings of relief) and a 6-0 comfortable lead became a narrow 6-5 lead. But in the seventh Kevin Ahrens doubled, McDade singled him home and McDade later scored on a sac fly from Ramirez.
Beck and Alan Farina recorded the last nine outs in a row to seal the win.
McDade was 4-5; Barron had three hits; Ramirez, McClanahan, and Brian Van Kirk had two hits each.
Lansing 5 Bowling Green 4 - 13 innings
In a tied game, in the 13th inning, Mark Sobolewski led off the inning with a double. He moved to third on a ground out and scored on a sac fly by Balbino Fuenmayor. Steve Turnbull worked a nervous bottom of the 13th for the save.
Chad Jenkins started and pitched six innings and, like Bell, gave up two runs on a two run home run. Overall Jenkins gave up six hits, he had no walks and three K's. Jenkins turned over a 4-2 lead to the bullpen. Matt Wright pitched a shutout seventh but put the lead runner on in the eighth. Dustin Antolin came on and gave up a single, a walk and a one out seeing eye single to score two runs and tie the game.
Lansing got on the board in the third inning, Ryan Schimpf doubled home Eric Eiland. The Lugnuts scored two more in the fourth, AJ Jimenez doubled in a run and Kenny Wilson singled in another. Jimenez doubled in the fourth Lugnut run in the sixth.
Lansing had 15 hits. Schimpf and Jimenez had three hits each, Ryan Goins and Glenn had two each.
