Colorado Springs is one of the toughest parks for a pitcher, the elevation is over 6000 feet and the thin and dry air doesn't help breaking balls move as much as at sea level. Think Denver with another 800 feet added on. But Brett Cecil did fine Friday, pitching six innings and only giving up one earned run. JP Arencibia provided the early offense with a run and two RBI's. Brett Wallace and Brian Dopirak went back to back in the ninth to cap the win.
The other three teams were not as fortunate. Travis D'Arnaud went deep again and Tyler Pastornicky appears to back in the groove. Adam Loewen got his first home run of the season. Randy Boone pitched well in relief. Chad Jenkins improved on his first start ut didn't dominate. Read all about it below.
Las Vegas 6 Colorado Springs 2
Brett Cecil pitched pretty well, he went six innings and gave up two runs, one earned, on seven hits and two walks with three K's. Colorado Springs is one of the most difficult places to pitch in the PCL, with its elevation breaking balls don't break as much and the thinner air tires out the pitcher. Sean Henn and Rommie Lewis finished out.
Las Vegas didn't score until the fifth, JP Arencibia singled and thanks to two errors came around to score. Arencibia singled again in the sixth to drive in two more runs. In the ninth Brett Wallace and Brian Dopirak went back to back with the jacks to round out the scoring.
The 51's had only seven hits and were outhit 10-7. Arencibia and Hoffpauir had two hits each.
This game was effectively over early. Marty McLeary could only get one out and left the game with the Cats down 5-0. Bubbie Buzachero was the first pitcher out of the pen and he gave up a couple of home runs, and four runs in total, and New Hampshire trailed 9-0 in the middle of the second inning.
Adam Loewen led the offense in this game, he hit a two run home run and an RBI double. Eric Thames also doubled in a run. Loewen, Diaz, Cooper, Mayorson and Thames had two hits each. Randy Boone pitched very well out of the bullpen, he pitched five shutout innings and only allowed one hit.
Joel Carreno held Brevard County off the scoreboard for four innings but gave up three runs in the fifth. Dunedin had runners in every inning, and eleven hits in total, but couldn't score until the eighth inning when Travis D'Arnaud hit his third home run. D'Arnaud had three hits and is hitting .429. Tyler Pastornicky is getting his stroke back too, he also had three hits. Brad McElroy and John Tolisano had two hits each.
Lake County 6 Lansing 3 - 10 innings
Lansing took the lead in this game, with three runs in the fifth. Sean Ochinko doubled, Kenny Wilson walked, Ryan Scimpf singled in one run and Mark Sobolewski singled in two more.
Chad Jenkins started for the Jays and had five shutout innings going but appeared to get the ball up in the sixth, he gave back all three runs with line drives and fly balls allowed suggesting he started getting the ball up in the zone. Dustin Antolin pitched two shutout innings after Jenkins but the game was tied at three's after nine innings. Steven Turnbull was hit around in the tenth and gave Lake County a three run lead.
Lansing had eight hits, Sobolewski and Ochinko had two each.
