As a "reward" for loyal fans and season ticket holders for a 75 win campaign, the Blue Jays organization is considering jacking up the price of single game tickets for next season according to the Globe & Mail. In addition, the team is cutting back benefits for season ticket holders such as free plane trips to Dunedin next spring. What's next? Inviting dead players to try out before crossing them off the list?
The club's ability to attract negative publicilty is as impressive as horse poop attracting flies. The fact the team official in the Globe story didn't outright deny that single game ticket prices are going up means they're going up. Who's kidding who here? I'm concerned about whether the price for Season Passes is going up or if they'll be outright eliminated? Regardless, the team should be reducing ticket prices or holding the line on them at the very least. They're high enough as it is and you get screwed with extra charges whether you order your tickets online or show up at the box office. It's one thing if the Jays plan on using the savings to go after free agents, sign all their draft picks or lock up Roy Halladay to a lifetime deal but that's about as likely as Shea Hillenbrand and John Gibbons getting together to sing "Kumbaya" around the ol' campfire.
Speaking of Halladay, the National Post opines the Jays should get some solid trade offers for the 2003 Cy Young Award winner as they will apparently let suitors negotiate a contract extension.
