The Blue Jays recently announced the Webster Award winners who will be presented with their awards this weekend at the Rogers Centre. Baseball America is starting their league top 20's today with the GCL and Carlos Perez makes the list.
The Webster Award winners are:
AAA - Randy Ruiz
AA - Brian Dopirak
High A - Moises Sierra
A - Johermyn Chavez
Low A - Sean Ochinko
Rookie - Carlos Perez
Dominican - Jose Vargas
It is hard to quibble with any of the selections except that no pitchers made the list. Marc Rzepczynski, Andrew Liebel and Henderson Alvarez must have been close. It's somewhat ironic that an organization that is strong in developing pitchers has six hitters as MVP's. It is also interesting to note that none of these players are high draft picks by the Jays. The list is a mix of minor league free agents and latin players with Ochinko the only drafted player.
Baseball America's top 20 GCL prospects are out and Carlos Perez makes the list at #5. The BA commentary is very complementary on all aspects of his game. Perez threw out 49% of base stealers this season, very impressive.
Gustavo Pierre did not make the top 20, BA noted that he is still very raw.
