It was another rough day for the 51s on the bump. Starter TJ Beam allowed eight runs in five innings. Rommie Lewis and Brian Wolfe then each allowed three runs. Sean Stidfole had a nice outing with no runs allowed in 1.1 innings. Buck Coats led the offense with three hits, which was equalled by Kevin Howard. JP Arencibia had two hits and a homer. Brian Dopirak went 1-for-3 with two walks.
New Hampshire 7 Portland 6
The Red Sox affiliate gave it a go in the ninth with two runs scored, but Dan Farquhar held on. The righty closer allowed two runs in the ninth but also struck out the side. Adrian Martin started the game and went just 1.2 innings (two runs allowed). Trystan Magnuson had another nice double-A outing with no runs allowed in 2.2 innings. Tim Collins was roughed up again at the double-A level with two runs allowed in 2.1 innings. Zach Dials threw 1.1 scoreless innings. Todd Donovan and Darin Mastroianni each had two hits at the top of the order. Donovan stole two bases, while Mastroianni nabbed one. David Cooper and Nick Gorneault each had two hits and the latter player also drove in two runs. Brad Emaus went 0-for-1 with a walk but he drove in two runs.
Dunedin 4 Lakeland 3
Charles Huggins gave up seven hits in 5.1 innings, but allowed just one run. Boomer Potts worked a scoreless inning after Dumas Garcia was roughed up for two runs over 1.2 innings. Alan Farina had his second straight positive appearance and recorded his fifth save. Eric Thames is back in the swing of things after missing significant time with an injury. He had three hits, including a solo homer. Manny Rodriguez had two hits. Kevin Ahrens went 1-for-3 with a solo dinger. Moises Sierra went 0-for-4 with three Ks.
Dayton 10 Lansing 6
The Reds affiliate jumped all over starter Chris Holguin, who allowed eight runs on 11 hits over 4.2 innings of work. Chase Lirette allowed six hits in 1.1 innings but gave up just two runs (one earned). Ryan Koch finished the game with two scoreless innings. Michael McDade and Welinton Ramirez continued to lead the offensive and each player had two hits. Ramirez also slammed his first low-A homer. Jon Talley, Justin McClanahan and AJ Jimenez each had a hit. Kenny Wilson went 0-for-3 with three Ks. Mark Sobolewski struck out three times in five at-bats.
Auburn 5 Batavia 1
Dave Sever worked just two innings and allowed one run on four hits and a walk. Jamie Lehman worked 2.2 scoreless innings, followed by scoreless work from 2009 draftees Brian Justice and Evan Teague. Yan Gomes paced the offense with two hits and two RBI. Markus Brisker also had two hits. Sean Ochinko went 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored. Chris Hopkins went 1-for-3, scored a run and stole a base. Brad Glenn went 1-for-2 with an RBI, walk and K.
GCL Jays 2 GCL Pirates 1
Matt Fields again showed his dominance of the younger competition with just one unearned run allowed in five innings. He struck out six and allowed just four hits. Tyler Ybarra had his control yesterday and he worked two shutout innings. Felix Moreno and Shawn Griffith each worked scoreless, hitless innings with two Ks. Jack Murphy and Matt Nuzzo each had two hits. Nuzzo added a triple. Nick Zaleski went 1-for-4 with a double. John Roberts went 1-for-2 with two walks a run scored. Gari Pena and Yeico Aponte each went 0-for-3 with two Ks.
