Joe Inglett had five hits and six RBI's on July 4th to lead Vegas to a big win. New Hampshire won 2-1 behind Kenny Rodriguez first AA start of 2009. Dunedin, Auburn and the GCL Jays also were winners, Lansing the only losers on Saturday. Among the prospects David Cooper, Moises Sierra and Trystan Magnuson are all hot right now.
Las Vegas scored six runs in the first inning. Kevin Howard and Brett Harper hit two run home runs, Joe Inglett hit a two run ground rule double. Randy Ruiz added a solo home run in the fourth and Joe Inglett a three run shot in the fifth. Inglett was 5-6 with 6 RBI's. Ruiz was 3-6 and Harper 2-5 with 4 RBI's. Travis Snider went 0-3, all of the outs by strikeout, with two walks. Brian Burres pitched seven innings for the win.
New Hampshire scored both their runs in the first inning, Adam Calderone singled, Brian Dopirak doubled him home and David Cooper singled home Dopirak. The Fisher Cats had two hits in the rest of the game. Cooper had another hit and since coming off the DL is 11-27 with two home runs.
Kenny Rodriguez made his first 2009 AA start and pitched six innings giving up one run on three hits. Rommie Lewis and Danny Farquhar finished up.
Dunedin outhit Clearwater 15-3. Jesus Gonzalez got things going with a two run home run in the third and then reached on an error and scored in the fifth. Manny Rodriguez hit a two run home run in the eighth. Rodriguez, Gonzalez and Jaspe each had three hits. Moises Sierra had two more hits and is hitting .328. Sierra is hitting .444 over his last ten games.
Vincent Bongiovanni gave up one run and two hits over 5 innings. Trystan Magnuson pitched three shutout innings and has an ERA of 0.52 over his last ten games. Magnuson had a 0.68 ERA in June and looks to be front of the line for a promotion to AA.
South Bend racked up 17 hits off three pitchers. Chase Lirette had a rare rought start, he gave up three runs in the first and South Bend never looked back. Lansing had nine hits, Chris Emanuele had three of them.
Starter Dave Sever had an excellent start for Auburn, 5.2 innings pitched and the only run to score off him was a strikeout victim who reached on a wild pitch. Sever struck out 8. Auburn's first run came when Kevin Nolan singled in Kyle Gilligan who had doubled. In the sixth Brad Glenn hit a two run home run to put Auburn up 3-1. It was 3-2 in the eighth when Auburn scored three, the bases were loaded with walks when Wellinton Ramirez cleared them with a triple. Casey Beck gave up three in the bottom of the eighth but he escaped further trouble and dodged another bullet in the ninth.
GCL Phillies 2 GCL Blue Jays 3 - 11 innings
Good pitching for the Jays as they didn't allow an earned run. Starter Carlos Pina pitched five innings giving up the two unearned runs on four hits. Three relievers pitched shutout ball the rest of the way, Nestor Molina pitched three, Lance Loftin two and David Slovak one.
Kenny Wilson, on rehab, scored the first run with a single, a stolen base, a ground out and a wild pitch. The Jays tied the game in the fifth, Yudelmis Hernandez singled to lead off the inning and later scored on a Gari Pena single. In the eleventh Nick Zaleski doubled, his second, to lead off the eleventh and went to third on a wild pitch. A sac fly from Matthew Nuzzo won the game.
