The affiliates went 3-for-4 on the night, which wasn't too bad considering how they've performed on Friday nights in previous weeks. Both New Hampshire (!) and Dunedin had nice offensive outbursts.
Reno 3 Las Vegas 1
Fabio Castro continues to pitch through a rough period. The diminutive lefty allowed three runs on seven hits and four walks in 4.2 innings of work. He struck out two batters. TJ Beam, who is pitching well, worked a scoreless 1.1 innings. Bubbie Buzachero had a nice outing with two innings of one-hit, no-run ball. Bill Murphy finished off the game with one scoreless inning. Offensively, Randy Ruiz had two hits, including his 34th double. Angel Sanchez, Aaron Mathews, Howie Clark, and Brett Harper also had hits.
New Hampshire 10 Binghamton 3
The Fisher Cats showed some early fireworks. Luis Sanchez and David Cooper - looking better since resting a shoulder injury - each had two hits. Cooper drove in three runs. Brian Dopirak was 1-for-2 with three walks and two runs scored. Nick Gorneault went 1-for-3, while Brian Jeroloman hit his fifth home run - a two-run shot. On the mound, Rey Gonzalez had another solid outing in his bid for a promotion to triple-A (along with Dopirak). Gonzalez, a sinker/slider pitcher, worked six shutout innings with just three hits and three walks allowed. He struck out seven batters, while inducing nine groundball outs and just two flyball outs. Nate Starner was lit up for three uneared runs in 1.2 innings.
Dunedin 10 Clearwater 5
Ryan Page had another rough outing on the mound by allowing five runs in as many innings. The lefty allowed seven hits and three walks with four strikeouts. Tim Collins allowed one hit and two walks over 1.2 innings. He also struck out four batters. Robert Bell did not allow a hit or a walk over 1.1 innings. Zach Dials worked a scoreless ninth inning. Offensively, Moises Sierra went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Manny Rodriguez also had two hits, including a two-run homer. He finished with four RBI. Jesus Gonzalez and Matt Liuzza also each had two hits. Liuzza also added two walks and two RBI. Adam Loewen went 1-for-4 and has now had at least one hit in nine of his last 10 games.
Great Lakes 5 Lansing 3 (12 innings)
The bullpen wasted another fine effort by 19-year-old Henderson Alvarez. The right-hander allowed just one unearned run in six innings. He allowed four hits and two walks, while striking out five. Jonas Cuotto worked two-thirds of an inning and struck out both of the batters he faced. Boomer Potts worked 1.1 scoreless innings. Matt Daly blew the save in the ninth by allowing two runs (only one earned) but he ended up working a total of three innings and he struck out six with no walks. Dustin Antolin lost the game after coming on in the 12th and failing to secure an out before the winning run scored. Offensively, AJ Jimenez went 1-for-5 but hit his first pro home run - a three-run shot. Balbino Fuenmayor went 1-for-3. Tyler Pastornicky was 2-for-5. Brian Van Kirk went 0-for-5 with three Ks.
State College 11 Auburn 3
Auburn has really not looked like a very good club this year, which is very different from previous seasons. On the mound, Brian Justice got the start and he allowed three runs on five hits and one walk. He lasted just 1.1 innings. Steve Turnbull then pitched the next 3.2 innings and allowed just one unearned run. Jamie Lehman coughed up six runs (five earned) in 2.2 innings of work. Zach Anderson gave up one run in one-third of an inning. At the plate, Lance Durham went 2-for-4. Brad Glenn was 1-for-4 but he scored a run and drove in two. Chris Hopkins went 1-for-3 and stole two bases. Eric Eiland was 0-for-3 but he stole his eighth base of the year.
GCL Jays 3 GCL Pirates 1 (Game 1 - 7 innings)
Ryan Shopshire allowed one run in three innings. Daniel DeLucia worked two scoreless innings. David Slovak (Win) and Shawn Griffith (Save) each worked scoreless innings. Rehabbing Kenny Wilson was 0-for-3. Gustavo Pierre went 1-for-3. Carlos Perez was 1-for-2 with a walk, strikeout and run scored. MIchael Crouse went 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Bryson Namba was 1-for-3.
GCL Pirates 5 GCL Jays 2 (Game 2 - 7 innings)
Matt Fields worked the first three innings and did not allow a run. Alex Pepe was then tagged for two runs in one-third of an inning. Felix Moreno allowed three unearned runs in one-third of an inning. Tyler Ybarra did not allow a run in two-thirds of an inning and he struck out one batter. Leandro Mella worked a scorless inning. Offensively, Kenny Wilson was 1-for-4 with a double and two Ks. Matt Nuzzo went 1-for-3 but also had an error. Yeico Aponte was 1-for-2 with a triple, a walk and he scored a run. Gari Pena went 1-for-3. Henry Rodriguez was 1-for-3 with a double.
