Sorry for the lateness of the report, but some of us had to work early, early on the first official day of the long weekend. Las Vegas and New Hampshire won, while Dunedin took two losses in a double-header. Lansing was rained out.
Las Vegas 8 Memphis 1
Lefty Fabio Castro continues to cruise along, although his triple-A numbers look a lot more fluky than his double-A numbers so time will tell. Castro allowed just three hits and two walks over eight innings of work. He struck out five and did not allow a run. JP Arencibia went 2-for-4 with a double and homer. He drove in four runs. Brian Harper was 2-for-4 with a double, homer and two RBI. Kyle Phillips went 2-for-3 and is hitting .415 since his call-up from double-A.
New Hampshire 6 Connecticut 2
Marc Rzepczynski had another good outing by allowing just one earned run in 5.1 innings of work. He allowed five hits and two walks, to go along with six Ks and eight ground-ball outs. Edward Buzachero worked 2.2 scoreless innings. Nick Gorneault and Adam Calderone each had two hits. Gorneault drove in three runs. David Cooper was 0-for-4 and is now down to an uninspiring .258 average for the season.
Tampa 3 Dunedin 2 (Seven innings) and Tampa 5 Dunedin 4 (Seven innings)
Take a page from the big club, the baby Yankees beat up on the baby Jays in a double-header on Friday. On the plus side, Justin Jackson had five hits in the two games and Kevin Ahrens had four. Both 2007 highly-drafted prep picks had been struggling mightily on the year. Jackson is fresh off of the disabled list. Nate Starner received a start and pitched poorly after a demotion from double-A. Ryan Page had the other start and pitched well by allowing just one run in five innings. Tim Collins allowed two runs on two hits in 0.2 innings of work to take the loss in the first game.

Three Stars:
3. Fabio Castro for eight shutout innings
