New Hampshire, the only minor league affiliate with a winning record, were the only winners on Saturday. Fabio Castro and David Cooper led the team to victory. Dunedin were shutout and Las Vegas lost a 9-8 game. Lansing was rained out.
Wade Miller started and pitched five innings and pitched well. he gave up two runs on four hits and three walks, only one strikeout though. The 51's tied the game with runs in the third and fifth. In the third Buck Coats walked to lead off the inning, stole second and scored on a Brett Harper single. In the fifth Howie Clark led off with a single, moved up on an error and scored on a ground out. Dirk Hayhurst pitched the sixth and gave up a run to put vegas down 3-2.
The 51's scored four runs in the seventh. JP Arencibia doubled to lead off the inning followed by a walk to Aaron Mathews. After a sac bunt Angel Sanchez was intentionally walked to load the bases. Howie Clark doubled in three runs to give the 51's the lead. Randy Ruiz then singled in Clark and the 51's led 6-3. Chris Michalak, the newest ex-Jay, gave up three runs to tie the game at 6 in the seventh. He was replaced by TJ Beam who gave up a two run home run and the score was 8-6.
Arencibia doubled again to lead-off the eight, Mathews singled to score Arencibia. Mathews later scored on a ground out and the game was again tied. But in the bottom of the eighth Beam gave up a two out single to Eric Patterson. Patterson then stole second and scored on a single by Chris Denorfia. In the ninth Vegas loaded the bases with two outs but Sanchez was called out on strikes to end the game.
Clark, Harper, Arencibia and Mathews had two hits each.
New Hampshire jumped out to a 5-0 lead and with Fabio Castro pitching that was enough. The Fisher Cats scored their first run in the second inning on back to back doubles by David Cooper and Nick Gorneault. New Hampshire added four in the fourth on five hits and a walk. Sean Shoffit's RBI triple was the only extra-base hit.
Castro cruised though five shutout innings but put the first two men on in the sixth allowing one run and a second run scored after he left the game. Castro's line was 5 IP, 2R,
The Fisher Cats added on a run in each of the seventh and eighth innings, Brian Jeroloman drove in Luis Sanchez in the seventh and a sac fly scored Cooper in the eighth.
Cooper had a 3-4 day and scored three runs. Gorneault and Sanchez each went 2-3.
Andrew Liebel dodged trouble all night, he had only one 1-2-3 inning. Liebel gave up nine hits in six innings and those nine hits led to three runs. Liebel didn't walk anyone but he had just one strikeout. Dunedin were unable to get anything going, three of their seven hits were off the bat of Moises Sierra
