With the minor league season almost finished I thought it would be useful to pull together the scouting reports and interviews I published this summer. Over the minor league season I was in Fort Myers to see the Dunedin Jays, in Lansing twice to see the Lugnuts, in Erie and Binghamton to see the Fisher Cats and in Auburn to see the Doubledays. I have pulled together all my scouting reports and interviews into one thread for reference purposes.
My first stop was Fort Myers in April where I saw three games between the Dunedin Jays and the Miracle. This was my first chance to see Brett Cecil and JP Arencibia and I also got to see Travis Snider when he was struggling to recover from his elbow injury. Gus Chacin, BJ Ryan and Armando Benitez (remember him?) also showed up. The scouting report is here. I spoke with JP Arencibia and Brett Cecil during my visit.
In May I travelled to Lansing to see the Lugnuts and to get a look at the high school players drafted by the Jays last year. The scouting report from that trip is here. The starers in those games were Randy Boone, Trystan Magnuson and Marc Rzepczynski. While I was there I conducted interviews with manager Clayton McCullough and pitching coach Tom Signore; with shortstop Justin Jackson and with pitcher Brad Mills.
I saw New Hampshire play Erie in June, just one game with my report in this minor league update. I talked with manager Gary Cathcart and Brian Jeroloman.
In August the road took me to Binghamton to see two games between the Mets and the Fisher Cats. The New Hamsphire scouting report is here.
On my way home from Binghamton I stopped in Auburn to see the Doubedays. I also spoke with Antonio Caceres the Doubledays pitching coach and included my game observations.
Finally I returned to Lansing to get a final look at the Lugnuts before the playoffs began. I published a scouting report and an interview with manager Clayton McCullough.
While I was in Lansing I caught up with Dane Johnson for another interview.
This was a good summer for the Jays minor leagues, they avoided serious injuries to their top prospects and many of the top ten prospects made excellen progress this season. And remember next year sets up to be another exciting year on the farm.
