The 2007 draft class was on display last night - some good, some bad, and some ugly.
Syracuse - Day off
Portland 9 at New Hampshire 5
Brett Cecil got the start for the Fisher Cats. He got through the first three innings without allowing a run giving up just 1 hit and hitting a batter. In the fourth inning Portland got to Cecil for three runs on a walk, single and home run. Cecil now has pitched 20.2 AA innings and has 20 Ks, 8 BBs, and 2 HRs allowed for a 3.92 ERA. That's a pretty good start, and if you wanted to toss out the first start due to nerves it'd be even better.
NH got most of their runs by the long ball with Snider, Butler, and Smith all hitting solo shots. 2B Scott Campbell continued his hot streak with 2 more hits upping his line for the year to .343/.412/.482. That's especially good considering that he skipped over Dunedin and hit .279/.390/.397 last year in Lansing. He's a pretty decent prospect right now for having been a 10th round pick 2 years ago.
St Lucie 3 at Dunedin 7
Adrian Martin started for Dunedin and gave up one run over 6 innings. He struck out 4 and walked none.
At the plate JP Arencibia went 3-3 with a double and a walk. Cory Patton stayed hot with a 2-4 night; he's 8-12 in his last three games. Emaus and Shoffit each also had two hits.
Lansing 11 at Dayton 8
Justin Jackson had his best game in awhile after a mini-slump. He went 2-4 with a double, 2 walks and a SB. Kevin Ahrens went 3-6 with all three hits being doubles. Eric Eiland went 2-3 with 2 doubles and 2 walks; I guess he was ready to leave extended ST. So a good night all around for the 07 draft class? Not entirely - Tolisano had 5 Ks in his 5 ABs (platinum sombrero? Horn o plenty? What is 5 Ks called?). Barron, Luizza, Sierra, and Manny Rodriguez each had two hits.
Speaking of struggling players from the 07 class, Trystan Magnuson gave up 5 runs in two innings. His ERA stands at 7.62 in Lansing. Not exactly what you're looking for someone out of the sandwich round who was a college senior.
