Rain wreaked havoc on the minor leagues on Sunday suspending games for the Chiefs and Fisher Cats. The other two affiliates combined to split a pair.
Rochester 0 Syracuse 1- 2nd inning
Bum luck for the Chiefs and Red Wings as their opportunity to play at Doubleday Field came to a wet end after less than two innings. The two teams will resume the game today in boring ol' Syracuse at 5pm.
Davis Romero started for Syracuse and pitched well in his 1.2 frames striking out 4 Red Wings. Adam Lind's sac fly in the first drove in the game's only run....so far.
New Hampshire 1 Trenton 0- 4th inning
At least these guys made it through three innings. They'll pick this one up on a yet-to-be-determined date with the Cats up by one. Brandon Magee started for New Hampshire and was actually effective for the only the second time in nine starts. Magee struck out a pair while allowing a walk and a hit before everyone's day came to an end.
St. Lucie 1 Dunedin 3- The Whole Game!
No rain in Florida. Do you think when Jays prospects are promoted to Double-A sometimes they might be just a little bit upset that they're leaving Florida weather? I mean, the whole 'chasing their dream' thing would likely trump things but knowing that your next steps are New Hampshire, Syracuse, and The Great White North must be slightly unsettling for some guys. I'll tell you, if I were starting a Major League organization, I'd situate my affiliates based on the local weather. Low-A would be somewhere in Wisconsin or Saskatchewan while my Triple-A affiliate would play their home games in Hawaii. Travel might be an issue but I think the added incentive of promotion would make up for it.
Anyway, the D-Jays did all of their damage in a three run second and held on the rest of the way. Chris Emanuele delivered the big blow with a two-run single. J.P. Arencibia's sac fly two batters later provided the rest. St. Lucie scored once in the sixth but didn't really threaten at any other point.
Robert Ray started for the Jays and went six strong allowing six hits and walking none. Chad Blackwell and Connor Falkenbach finished things off with three innings of one-hit ball.
Arencibia was the only D-Jay with more than one hit. His 2-for-3 day raised his line to 277/303/453. More walks, please.
Ugly day for Lugnut bats as their two runs came on just two hits. Lansing manufactured the hell out of a run in the first as Kevin Ahrens walked, was balked to second, advanced to third on a fly ball and scored on a passed ball. Just how they drew it up.
Manny Rodriguez launched his third homer of the year in the fourth for their other run. Mike McDade also doubled in the fifth but, uh, that was it.
Marc Rzepczynski (yeah, I copied and pasted his last name) made his third start for Lansing and lasted four frames. He certainly didn't save his best for last as all four runs came in his horrific final inning where Rzepczysnki walked two, threw a wild pitch, allowed three stolen bases, two singles, and a triple. And that was that.
Edgar Estanga threw three no-hit innings in relief lowering his ERA to 0.69. Estanga, who's listed as 5'9" and 230 pounds, has now pitched 27.2 innings allowing just 17 hits and a K:BB ratio of 26:7. He is 22, though, so a promotion to Dunedin will be necessary to see if the Jays have something here.
