Syracuse 6 @ Richmond 7
Water torture. Two walks with runners on first and second and two out in the bottom of the eighth forced in the tie-breaking run. Josh Banks started and went 6 innings, and allowed 5 earned runs on 9 hits and 1 walk with 1 strikeout. Blaine Neal came on for him and was around for the eighth. Kevin Barker hit a 2 run shot in the 6th to even the score for a brief period at 4. Ray Olmedo went 2-3 with a walk and Russ Adams went 2-5. Reed Johnson continued his rehab despite the urgings of Amy Winehouse and had 1 hit in 5 trips.
New Hampshire 3 @ Binghamton 4
Little ball will only carry a team so far. The Fisher Cats manufactured three runs from two hits (a single and a double), by productive outs, double steals, walks, and a throwing error, but it was not enough. Robinson Diaz and Manny Mayorson had the only hits. Kurt Isenberg started and went 5.2 tough innings in a rain-delayed game, surrending all 4 runs on 8 hits and 2 walks. Sean Stidfole did a nice job in relief. Ricky Romero gets the start for the Fisher Cats tonight.
Fort Myers 4 @ Dunedin 9

Butler's 7th inning grand slam broke open a 5-4 game, and the D-Jays
coasted from there. Robert Ray had his best outing of the season
throwing 4 innings of 2 hit ball. He walked 2 and struck out
6. The game was tied at 1 through 3 innings. In the bottom
of the 4th, the D-Jays loaded the bases with nobody out on singles by
Kreuzer and Patton followed by a Butler walk. Jesus Gonzalez' 2
run double broke the tie, and two more runs came in on a passed ball
and a Chris Gutierrez single. The Miracle chipped away in the
middle innings until Butler's big blow. Billy Carnline threw 2.2
innings of relief, and allowed one earned run on 3 hits and no walks
with 1 strikeout. Josh Kreuzer and Luke Hetherington while
Gonzalez went 2-3 with a walk. The shortstop Gonzalez who is not
quite 23 is now hitting .306/.342/.528 for 72 at-bats on the season.
South Bend 3 @ Lansing 4
Matt Liuzza's 6th inning solo shot evened the score at 3 to set the stage for Scott Campbell's game winning RBI double in the eighth. Zach Dials started and gutted his way through 5 innings, but the pitching story was Po-Hsuan Keng who threw 2 innings of hitless relief with a walk and 3 strikeouts to earn the win. Travis Snider went 0-3 with 2 walks, 1 intentional. Nate Starner toes the rubber for the Lugnuts tonight.
Auburn 3 @ Batavia 2, 11 inn
The Doubledays found a way to win in a wild 11th inning. The game was tied at 1 through 10 innings. With one out, Victor Santana tripled. After J.P. Arencibia grounded out, with Santana holding, the Muck Dogs intentionally walked C.J. (aka Roger) Ebarb to get to Leance Soto. A wild pitch and a ground ball thrown away later, the Doubledays had 2 runs, and another potential run was thrown out at the plate. In the bottom of the 11th, Batavia strung together a walk and two singles with one out to plate one and put runners on first and second. Leance Soto then turned a neat 5-3 double play to end the game. Kyle Walter started and went 5 fine innings, allowing an unearned run on 3 hits and 2 walks, while punching out 5. Arencibia took an 0 fer with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts, and was thrown out at the plate and was charged with a passed ball. Hey, the catcher can always take some credit when the pitchers do well.
GCL Braves 8 @ GCL Jays 4
The
Jays are shuttling Kevin Ahrens, Justin Jackson and Balbino Fuenmayor
through the shortstop, third base and DH slots. Yesterday, it was
Jackson at short, Ahrens at third and Fuenmayor DHing. Jackson
went 3-5, including a triple, while Ahrens went 1-3 with a walk and
Fuenmayor took an 0 fer. The young Jays fell behind 7-1 early and
couldn't really make a game of it. Ahrens made his 3rd error of
the season.
