If you've got the time, we've got the boxscores. The Jay farm
affiliates had the distinct pleasure of facing the Miller prospects,
Buffalo's Adam and Lakeland's Andrew, and were unable to score against
either but still managed a split of those two games and went 1-3
overall.
Buffalo 7 @ Syracuse 5
The
Chiefs rallied in the ninth for four runs, but fell just short. Adam
Miller started for Buffalo and threw a 2 hit shutout with 7 strikeouts
for 6 innings. Luis (0 for Thrivas) Rivas went 4-5 to lead the Bison
offence. The Chiefs trailed 7-1 going to the ninth, but managed to put
the tying runs on base off the Buffalo bullpen. Jeff Duncan and Wayne
Lydon singled to open the inning. Rey Olmedo followed with a walk to
load the bases with nobody out. After a short fly from Russ Adams,
John-ford Griffin drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. A Kevin Barker
walk and singles from Ryan Roberts and John Hattig set the stage for
Curtis Thigpen with 2 outs and runners on 1st and 2nd and trailing by
two. Thigpen popped up to end the rally. Lydon and Olmedo at the top of
the Chiefs order both reached base 4 times in 5 plate trips, but the
middle of the lineup struggled.
Rey Olmedo is known for his
defence at short, and has now worked his line up to .291/.356/.304 with
7 walks and 11 strikeouts in 79 at-bats. He turns 26 at the end of this
month. Wayne Lydon, who turned 26 two weeks ago, is hitting
.304/.368/.443 with 8 walks and 20 strikeouts in 79 at-bats in double A
and triple A, and 7 steals in 8 tries. Lydon is a capable defensive
outfielder and would be a reasonable addition to the Jay bench. Curtis
Thigpen is now hitting .263/.328/.474, but has struggled mightily with
his throwing, and Russ Adams' .224/.305/.329 line is quite
disappointing.
New Hampshire 2 @ Trenton 3
The
Fisher Cats fell to the rolling Thunder on an eighth inning RBI double
by Matt Carson off Lee Gronkiewicz. The Cats broke on top in the first
inning on a Ryan Klosterman RBI single. Starter Kyle Yates gave up a
run in the bottom of the second on two ground-ball singles and a ground
out. Catcher John Schneider homered in the top of the 4th, before Yates
gave up a ground ball double and a ground ball single in the bottom of
the 5th to tie up the game. The Cats loaded the bases with nobody out
in the 7th, but two popups and a Chip Cannon lineout spelled the end of
that rally. After Trenton scored in the bottom of the eighth, the Cats
mounted a rally again, but this time a Sergio Santos strikeout with the
bases loaded ended the game. Yates gave up 2 earned runs on 6 hits and
5 walks, with 3 punchouts, in 7 innings of work. The Cats managed 6
hits and 6 walks on the game, but could not find the big hit for love
or money. Aaron Matthews went 0-4 with an HBP out of the 3 slot in the
lineup (behind Majewski and Mayorson- the 3M Company?). Sergio Santos
also took an 0 fer with a walk and 2 Ks.
Lakeland 4 @ Dunedin 5
In the game of the day, the D-Jays rallied from a 4-0 deficit at
the 7th inning stretch with a run in the bottom of the 7th and four in
the bottom of the eighth for the victory. Andrew Miller shut them
down for 6 innings, before the Lakeland pen took it on the chin.
Brian Jeroloman wielded the big stick, with a solo homer in the seventh
and the game-winning two-run double in the eighth. Jacob Butler
opened the eighth with a line single. Ryan Patterson followed
with a walk. After a wild pitch and an Eric Nielsen strikeout,
Josh Kreuzer's 2 run double pulled the Jays within a run. David
Corrente gave up his body to be a baserunner before Jeroloman's key
blow. Aaron Tressler started and was roughed up a bit by the
Tiger cubs for 2 runs and 9 baserunners in 4.1 innings. Yesson
Berroa followed and gave up 2 unearned runs in 2 innings, before Danny
Core earned the win with 2.2 hitless innings. Patterson doubled
twice in three at-bats before his walk. Jeroloman walked twice
prior to his homer and double.
Lansing 0 @ Burlington 11
Alas, no mercy rule. Chris Reddout pitched 5 fine shutout
innings of 2 hit ball. Unfortunately, those innings came in after
Nathan Starner was left in for 3+ innings and charged with 11 earned
runs. Normally, a young pitcher will be pulled after giving up 7
earned runs in 3 innings, but for some reason Starner was left in for
more punishment. Travis Snider went 0-4 with 2 strikeouts. Did
you know that the Bees' first baseman is named "Scott Lucas"?
He is going to have slug more than .200 to have much of a career, but
still it was awfully kind of him to change his name to honour the BBFL
Commissioner Emeritus.
