Life is bare/ gloom and mis'ry everywhere/stormy weather. David
Purcey and Aaron Tressler helped beat back the despair for minor league
watchers with fine pitching performances as the farm affiliates went
2-1. Purcey's fine outing was especially good news for the
organization.

David
Purcey shut down the Defenders in his season debut. Purcey went
6.1 innings and allowed 5 hits and 1 walk, while striking out 7 and
picking off a runner. Off-season acquisitions Jo Matumoto and Jean
Machi finished off seamlessly. Aaron Mathews continued his hot
hitting, leading the F-Cat attack with 3 hits. Brad Hassey had two
safeties and drove in two. The Fisher Cat defence contributed 3
double plays to the cause. The Cats scratched out three runs in
the fourth inning and two in the fifth for the easy victory.

In
the opener, Brandon Magee took it on the chin for 1.2 innings, allowing
6 earned runs on 6 hits and 3 walks. The highlight of the game
for the D-Jays was Sean Stidfole's very competent mop-up job- 2 perfect
innings with 3 strikeouts. Jacob Butler had two of the Jays' 7
hits, while Anthony Hatch went hitless. In the nightcap, it was
Tressler's revenge. Aaron went 4 innings, allowed 2 hits and no
walks, while punching out 8 Little Reds. Ted Serro and Conor
Falkenbach finished up. Cory Patton doubled and singled and
scored a run, while Josh Kreuzer doubled, scored and drove in a run to
lead the offence.
