Two games and two rainouts, again. But you’ll want to read about these.

Syracuse 16 @ Durham 0 - Boxscore

Wow. This will be the best game from a team standpoint I cover all year long and I had to blow it on the first update. I wanted to work up to it, with some disappointments and some close wins before getting to the one where a Jays affiliate just demolishes the opposition. Tony Peguero couldn’t wait though, as he entered the game in relief of JP Howell and gave up 8 of the runs in the 9-run 6th inning. Former Jay Steve Andrade and former Tampa closer Seth McClung pitched the last 3 innings.

For the Jays Geremi Gonzalez picked up where his impressive spring training left off and struck out 9 over 5 scoreless innings. Of his other 6 outs, 5 were by groundballs. Jamie Vermilyea, Brian Wolfe and Blaine Neal combined for four hitless innings of relief. Every Syracuse player got a hit and Adam Lind, John-Ford Griffin and Sal Fasano all hit their first homers of the year. Lind was the offensive star going 3-6 with 2 runs and 5 RBIs. Ryan Roberts also had a nice game with a 2-4 line, 2 BBs, 2 runs and 2 RBIs, as did Griffin, who went 2-5 with 2 BBs, 2B, HR and 3 RBIs.

New Britain @ New Hampshire PPD

The start of New Hampshire’s season was postponed, again.

Clearwater 7 @ Dunedin 9 - Boxscore

Robert Ray had a bit of a weird start, as he allowed 6 hits and 3 runs in 3 innings, but only one was earned. He also struck out 6. Danny Core got the win in relief, as he tries to put a forgettable debut on Canadian television behind him. Offensively, Cory Patton, Carlo Cota, Jacob Butler and Eric Nielsen all got two hits for Dunedin in the victory. It would have been another fun game to watch, as Clearwater got out to a 3-0 lead, Dunedin came back to lead it 5-4, Clearwater tied the game and then took a 6-5 lead. Dunedin then scored 4 in the 7th to go up 9-6. Connor Falkenbach gave up a solo homer in the ninth, but picked up his first save of the year.
