The farm affiliates swept all seven of their games. The bats boomed,
the pitchers threw strikes, the fielders caught the ball, and all was
right with the world.
Pawtucket 2 @ Syracuse 10
The Sky Chiefs rapped out 12 hits, including 8 for extra bases, in a
rout of the Pawsox. Kevin Barker homered and doubled and drove in
three runs. Sergio Santos added a 2 run blast, while Rob Cosby, Adam
Lind and Luis Figueroa contributed 2 hits each. Russ Adams
tripled in two runs late in the game. Josh Towers went 7 solid
innings for the win, allowing two earned runs on 7 hits and 1 walk with
8 strikeouts. Jamie Vermilyea pitched the final two innings and
surrendered but a solitary hit. Vermilyea struck out two.
Lind is now hitting .378 since he arrived in Syracuse after his 2-4
night with a walk. Curtis Thigpen also reached base twice in four
tries.
New Hampshire 4 @ Bowie 1, 1st game
New Hampshire 6 @ Bowie 3, 2nd game
In the opener, Jesse Litsch threw a 3-hitter at the Bay Sox. Litsch
walked 1 and struck out 4. Chip Cannon's two run
homer in the 4th inning provided all the runs Litsch would need. Cannon
drove in another run with a single in the sixth and Erik Kratz
added a sacrifice fly to provide insurance markers. Manny Mayorson
doubled and singled and scored 2 runs. In the nightcap, Jason Scobie
allowed a run in 6 innings of work. Dustin Majewski and Manny
Mayorson (M and M?) at the top of the lineup led the charge, with
Majewski reaching base in all 4 of his plate appearances and scoring
and driving in two runs and Mayorson adding a 2-run single of his own.
Tampa 3 @ Dunedin 5
General Cory Patton blasted two homers and drove in three to support 7
strong innings from Orlando Trias as the Jays toppled the Yanks.
It's worth repeating that latter phrase even if it's the Florida State
League that one is speaking of. Trias gave up 5 hits and walked
one, while striking out two Baby Yankees. Danny Core was touched
for the other two Tampa runs in the eighth, before Connor Falkenbach
shut 'em down in the ninth for the save. Scott Dragicevich
reached base three times in four tries.
South Bend 1 @ Lansing 2
Hector Delgadillo, Po-Hsuan Keng and Paul Phillips combined on a
six-hitter, as the Lugnuts edged the Silver Hawks. Delgadillo
threw 5 shutout innings, allowing seven baserunners while striking out
four. Keng was even better, allowing three baserunners in three
innings and whiffing four Hawks. Phillips gave up an unearned run
in the ninth, which was scored without benefit of a hit or a
walk. Jacob Butler's run-scoring double in the third inning put
the Lugs on the board, and Jesus Gonzalez' solo blast in the seventh
provided some much-needed insurance.
Auburn 7 @ State College 3
The Doubledays scored early and often and coasted to an easy win.
Catcher Matthew Lane was moved to third base last night and his bat did
not suffer, as he hit his 4th homer of the season, a two-run shot, and
also singled. Adam Calderone, Shawn Scobee and Jonathan Diaz each
pitched in with a couple of safeties. Ron Lowe started and threw
5 innings, allowing one unearned run on five hits and no walks with one
strikeout. Scott Byrnes and Patrick McGuigan pitched well in
relief, while Zach Dials gave up a rare couple of runs in less than an
inning of work.
Burlington 7 @ Pulaski 18
Two touchdowns and two safeties for the P-Jays made it a romp.
Never mind. The Jays banged out sixteen hits, drew nine walks and
generally had their way with Burlington. Baron Frost went 4-5 and
drove in 5 runs, while Jonathan Jaspe hit a grand slam homer and drove
in six. Tablesetters Wes Stone and Chris Emanuele did their job
too, each reaching base 4 times with Stone scoring four and Emanuele
scoring five. Leeance Soto broke out of his season-long slump with 3
singles. Francisco Mateo could not stand the prosperity as he
gave up a grand slam of his own in the fourth inning and did not stick
around long enough to get the win. Jeffrey Gilmore threw two
shutout innings for the win, and Alan Stidfole followed with three
shutout innings for the long save. The other Stidfole struck out
four and walked nobody.
