Head-to-head fantasy ball plays much differently than roto leagues and, in my opinion, is much more entertaining. Many roto leagues are essentially decided soon after the All-Star break, compelling owners to waste their free time on fantasy football or even their spouses. In the BBFL, with only two weeks remaining in the regular season, most owners have tenuous grips on their current ranks. 0-12 or 1-11 thrashings are rare, but they do happen and can upend the standings in seven short days. Disaster, or salvation, is always just around the corner.
ALOMAR DIVISION:
The #1 Edmonton Decepticons and #2 Gashouse Gorillas maintained their holds on the two bye slots last week. #3 Mebion Glyndwyr again has made a three-team race with its startling 12-0-0 wipeout of the Thunderbirds. Arguably the more interesting battles are in the middle of the rankings, where teams #7 through #16 are separated by a mere ten games. If the #7 Chatsworth Halos and #8 Toronto Walrus want to move into the Championship Bracket, they’ll have to go through the top teams in the division. The Halos face the Decepticons while the Walrus squares off against the Gorillas. The suddenly vulnerable Thunderbirds take on the #19 Eastern Shore Birds. The Shore Birds must win decisively to have a chance of avoiding relegation.

BARFIELD DIVISION:
The Angry Gnomes fought European Wannabe to a 6-6-0 tie last week, and that was good enough. The Gnomes still advanced two places while Wannabe must advance 2.5 games in the next two weeks to avoid relegation. Their closest competition is the K-Town Mashers, victims of a shutout against the Pohnpei Papayas, who find themselves in a tie with the Moscow Rats for the last first-round bye. The 1-Tool Wonders fell off the pace with a 2-10-0 loss to MulReduxMonkeymen. As with Alomar, the Barfielders feature a couple of terrific matchups this week: the #2a Papayas visit #8 Baseball North and #2b Rats battle the #7 Monkeymen.

The Sexy Underpants tightened their hold on first with a shutout of soon-to-be-out-of-the-BBFL Adjustable Chuck. Chicaco’s Bail Bonds held strong with a 9-3-0 victory over Team Balla, and The Wedding Singers conceded some ground in defeating the Scottish Dunces by a modest 6-5-1 score. The #10 Big Game Hunters set a Carter record with 56 runs (the BBFL record is 65) in their own shutout of the Trembling Wilburys. This week, #4 Shining Force meets the #8 @$$kickers, and the #5 Blocked Youngsters tackle the #6 BSL Blue Sox.
