It was the All-Star Break for both the Triple-A and Double-A teams last night, leaving four games (and four wins). It's easy for the organization to sweep when Syracuse doesn't play. (And if you can believe it, not one of the six teams played on Tuesday. Let's see if we still remember how to do this.)
Dunedin 8 @ Sarasota 5
Six innings, six strikeouts and just six baserunners for Orlando Trias last night. The K's are a little high -- the ever-important Michalak Line had the better of him going into last night.
Four D-Jays hit homers, with Robinzon Diaz being the only one to do so with runners on. Eric Nielsen picked up two singles in addition to his solo home run, which Cory Patton liked so much, he hit one himself in the next AB. Carlo Cota followed later with a two-run single to complete the four-run fourth.
Fort Wayne 4 @ Lansing 13
The Lugnuts put together two six-run innings last night, with Jason Armstrong (HR, single, 2 RBI) and Brian Pettway (two singles, double, 4 RBI) providing most of the pop. Pettway is now hitting .272/.346/.497 with a ton of strikeouts, if you're wondering.
Despite the attack from the 'Nuts, Fort Wayne still put up a fight, with 12 hits. Alas, they had nine men left on base.
Auburn 5 @ Aberdeen 3
In a game that would make David Aardsma very happy, Matthew Lane drove home one in the fourth and another in the sixth, both on doubles. In the bottom of the sixth, he moved from 3B to C and threw out a runner...then he drove in another run for good measure in the eighth. Luke Hopkins went 2-for-4 himself to raise his OBP over .400. 15 walks against 19 strikeouts isn't too bad for this fifth-rounder.
Pulaski 5 @ Johnson City 1
A 3-0 game for the longest time, the Cardinals finally broke through in the ninth...by which time it was 5-0, so it didn't matter. Kudos to Michael "Don't Call Me Nathan" Barbara, Nathan Melek and Nathan Starner, for, in order: four shutout innings with 6 K's to start, a perfect sixth and seventh, and two strikeouts in a 1-2-3 eighth.
The Leance Soto Strikeout Watch is now at 15 in 36 AB. He wasn't alone, however, as Travis Snider got the hat trick amongst his 0-for-4 and Paul Franko (who doubled twice and scored twice) also struck out twice.
