Cory Patton had ten RBI's as Dunedin ran up the score on Fort Myers. David Purcey pitched well in a Fisher Cat win, Davis Romero did not as the Chiefs lost. Anthony Hatch and Brian Bormaster led the Lugnuts to victory and Casey McKenzie pitched Auburn to a win. A Jays starting pitcher notched up twelve K's, and it is not a flame thrower. A Pulaski rainout leaves the affiliates with a 4-1 record on the day.
Pop quiz, who leads the Fisher Cats in OBP?
Davis Romero took it on the chin giving up eight runs in 3.2 innings. Romero gave up a couple in the first with a triple being the big blow, a run in the second on a home run, another single in the third and four more runs in the fourth. Ben Weber, Vinnie Chulk and Jordan DeJong gave up a couple each.
The Chiefs hitters didn't get going until they were already down 10-0. John-Ford Griffin returned from the DL and went 2-4 with a home run. Chad Mottola went 3-4 with a homer too.
David Purcey gave up a run in the first inning as three of the first four batters registered a hit, but then he settled down and only allowed one base runner in the next four innings. Purcey didn't walk a hitter but it is too early to declare his control problems solved as he only pitched five innings despite the lack of walks and only four hits allowed. But hey, anytime you hold the opposition to one run in five innings it's good.
The Fisher Cats had only one hit themselves through five innings but they got after the bullpen for four runs in the sixth, Adam Lind singled in one, Chip Cannon doubled in two and John Schneider had a sac fly. The bullpen took it the rest of the way for New Hampshire. Adam Lind and David Smith had two hits each. Curtis Thigpen went 0-1 but walked three times. Thigpen has 31 walks in 160 AB's and has a .383 OBP, Lind is next at .364.
Dunedin had a rough second inning when they failed to score; they moved the scoreboard in every other inning as they demolished Fort Myers. Cory Patton was the hitting star driving in ten runs, and they weren't cheap runs late in the game either. Patton drove in the Jays first four runs, two in the first and two more in the third before adding a pair of three run home runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Patton finished with four hits. Windsor's David Corrente also had two home runs and three hits, Ryan Patterson hit one home run and had three hits. Eric Nielsen also had three hits.
Jesse Litsch took advantage of the support to shut down Fort Myers on three hits in six innings with one walk and six K's. In June Litsch has pitched 34 innings, allowing 28 hits and two walks while striking out 25. Litsch has allowed four runs this month for an ERA just over one.
Brian Bormaster and Anthony Hatch led the offense as they each went 4-5 with a home run. Hatch and Bormaster scored two runs each and drove in five runs between them. Hatch's batting average is up to .349 with an OPS over 1000.
Aaron Tressler went six innings allowing three of the runs on eight hits. But Tressler also recorded twelve K's in his six innings. Eleven of the twelve were swinging strike-outs.
Casey McKenzie made his second start of the season and went seven innings allowing inly one run on five hits. Adam Calderone (23rd round pick in the draft) went 3-3 with a run and an RBI, Luke Hopkins (5th round pick in the draft) had two hits including a two run home run.
