Syracuse collects the only win of 3 games played by the Toronto farm.

Syracuse 4 @ Columbus 1

A solid Josh Banks held Columbus to 1 run, a solo homer, over 6 innings. The Clippers collected just 5 hits total off him, striking out 4 times and walking once. Shaun Marcum followed with 2 no-hit innings, and Brandon League collected his 4th save on the strength of a no-hit ninth.

The SkyChiefs did most of their damage in the 5th, scoring 3 times in a rally bookended by doubles from John Hattig and Kevin Barker. Barker, Ryan Roberts, and Wayne Lydon enjoyed 2-hit nights, Lydon’s line also featuring 2 walks and 2 stolen bases. Sergio Santos went 0-4.

New Hampshire 0 @ Trenton 1

Kyle Yates pitched a brilliant 7 innings of 1-hitter, allowing just an unearned run, but suffered a loss as the Fisher Cat bats went missing. Yates struck out 5 and walked 3, with one of those walks coming around to score with help from a Curtis Thigpen passed ball. It was a tough inning for Thigpen, as he also made a throwing error attempting to gun down a thief at second.

Thigpen managed a hit, which was more than most Cats could say as they totaled just 4 on the night. Adam Lind was the top New Hampshire hitter, really sticking it to the opposition with a hit AND a walk. SS Manny Mayorson and CF David Smith had the other two hits.

Tampa 10 @ Dunedin 4

A less than dominant Ricky Romero was followed by a downright awful Matt Duff and a bad Brad Mumma as the D-Jays found themselves on the wrong end of a blowout. Romero went 5 2/3, 4 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits including a homer, 2 walks and 8 Ks.

Offensively, 3B Chris Gutierrez had a double and a single while C John Schneider had a homer and a single. LF Ryan Patterson and CF Dustin Majewski were each 1-for-3 with a walk, DH Robinzon Diaz and SS Ryan Klosterman each reached once in 4 trips.

Lansing: All-Star break. The Lugnuts will be represented in the game this evening by pitchers Russ Savickas and Billy Carnline, outfielder Cory Patton, and first baseman David Hicks.

Three Star Selection!

The Third Star: Josh Banks, Syracuse. 6 innings, 6 baserunners, 1 run.

The Second Star: Kyle Yates, New Hampshire. 7 innings, 1 hit, 3 walks, 5 whiffs.

The First Star: Wayne Lydon, Syracuse. 2 hits, 2 walks, 2 steals.

Today: The Auburn Doubledays kick off their Short-Season A-ball New York-Penn League season with a game at Batavia.
