B.J. and the B.J.s drop the Os.
Star of the Game: Alex Rios thumped a 2-run homer in the 7th and the bullpen took it from there.
Unsung Hero: Ty Taubenheim’s 3rd Major League start was his best yet, good for a Game Score of 51. For the Blue Jays this year, that almost always equates to a win.
For the Orioles: Kevin Millar reached base three times via walk, single, and bean ball.
Defensive Play of the Game: Reed Johnson helped B.J. look good at the ol’ stomping grounds by ending the game with a beauty catch in the left centre gap.
Defensive Misplay of the Game: Rookie right fielder Nick Markakis helped the Jays score a run in the 5th when he threw to third base after fielding Bengie Molina’s ground ball single. Both runners had broken backwards on contact, and Hillenbrand could have been had at second.
For an encore, he threw wildly to the plate after catching the fly ball from the next batter. Ramon Hernandez bailed him out with a sliding grab.
Head Games: The gears were turning for my man John Gibbons, as he sent out his setup duo of Justin Speier and Scott Schoeneweis to handle the heart of the Oriole order in the 7th, followed by nominal 7th inning man Jason Frasor for the 8th inning.
Elsewhere: Melky Cabrera stole a home run from Manny Ramirez in the top of the 8th to help the Yankees hold on for a 2 – 1 win over the Bosox.
Today: For the Jays, Casey Janssen, who’s really starting to fit in this league. For the O’s, Kris Benson, who’s really beginning to miss lineups that feature one free out every 9 batters.
