The farm affiliates went 3-1 on Thursday night.
Norfolk 7 @ Syracuse 2
Gustavo Chacin's rehab outing had a shaky start as leadoff hitter Lastings Milledge took him deep. After 3 more Tide runs in the 3rd inning, Chacin took his leave with 57 pitches under his belt. He gave up 6 hits and 1 walk, while striking out 2. Shaun Marcum came on, and continued his trend by allowing 4 doubles and a homer in 4.2 innings but no walks and six strikeouts. Vinny Chulk and Brandon League finished up, each with a scoreless inning. Rob Cosby and Chad Mottola hit solo homers, and Sergio Santos doubled twice in three plate trips.
New Hampshire 4 @ Connecticutt 0
Poor Ismael Ramirez! He's 3-3 with a 1.37 ERA, having allowed the grand total of 10 runs in his 9 starts. How does that happen? Yesterday's game might give a clue. Ramirez goes 7.2 shutout innings (allowing 5 baserunners while striking out 4), but leaves in a scoreless game. Rodney Ormond gets the last out of the eighth, and in the top of the ninth the Fisher Cats rally for 4 runs on a single by Manny Mayorson (his third of the game) and a three-run rip by Adam Lind, his 8th dinger of the season. Ormond closes out the game in the ninth for the win. The Fisher Cats had had 12 baserunners in the first 8 innings, but the timely hits had eluded them. Poor Ismael Ramirez!
Daytona 4 @ Dunedin 5
The D'Jays used a heavy prescription from Dr. Longball to overcome the Baby Cubs. Ron Davenport's 8th inning blast broke a 4-4 tie, while a 3 run shot from Dustin Majewski and a solo job by Ryan Patterson plated the other Dunedin runs. Davenport and Majewski each reached base 3 times on the evening. Danny Core started and struggled through 3 innings. Derek Tate and Justin James held the Cubs at bay for 2 innings each, with James' 4 strikeouts in his shutout frames a highlight. Connor Falkenbach and Milton Tavarez each threw a scoreless inning for the win and save respectively.
Lansing 5 @ Fort Wayne 3
Billy Carnline got back on track by throwing 5 innings of 1 hit shutout ball, while striking out 4 and walking 3, and Joey Metropolous homered and reached base 5 times to help the Lugnuts overcome the Wizards' magic. Anthony Garibaldi and Cory Patton also went deep for the 'Nuts. Aaron Tressler followed Carnline with 2 shutout innings. Po Hsuan Keng finished up, surrendering 3 Wizard runs in the ninth with one out in the ninth on two doubles and a homer but then buckled down and retired the last 2 batters in order.
