The Dodgers, already missing Milton Bradley and Rickey Ledee, have now lost J.D. Drew for the next two months with a broken wrist. Drew injured? Who saw that one coming?
Meanwhile, the Orioles put C Geronimo Gil on the DL - with Javy Lopez already out, it means that they'll be starting the third guy on their depth chart, Sal Fasano.
B.J. Ryan of the Orioles came into yesterday's game in the 8th inning, with no one out and a runner on first. The Orioles were ahead by a run. The Yankees gave up one out on a sacrifice and another on the basepaths and still scored another six runs.
Keith Foulke came on to nail down a Boston victory in the 9th. Except after getting the first out, he allowed a triple, an RBI double to tie the game, a walk, a hit batter, and a game winning single. Foulke, who has had six straight brilliant seasons, is now 5-5, 6.23 with 15 saves in 19 opportunities. The AL is batting .299 and slugging .526 against him; his career numbers are .219 and .358.
It wasn't all bad news for AL East closers. The Jays had the day off, the Devil Rays never once had a lead, and Mariano Rivera dismissed the Orioles in order in the ninth, fanning two, to get the save.
In ex-Blue Jay news, Paul Quantrill worked a scoreless inning in his Padres debut, Giovanni Carrara picked up his 6th win, Carlos Delgado hit his 16th homer.
