So, Dick Scott sent out an e-mail to the farm affiliates on Saturday morning. It was simple. Starting pitchers are expected to throw shutouts, while the hitters are expected to hit a few homers. Lo and behold, the clubs by and large listened and the plan worked, as the farm affiliates went 5-1.

Chad Gaudin threw a 4 hit shutout as the Sky Chiefs romped. He walked 2 and struck out 4. Kevin Barker, Bryant Nelson and Chad Mottola homered in the first inning with Barker and Mottola going back-to-back. The Chiefs were up 6-0 after 3 innings and Gaudin took it from there. Barker and Mottola had 3 hits each, while Justin Singleton reached base 3 times and scored 3 runs.

Every once in awhile, a team has an inning that is best forgotten. The 12th inning of last night's game against Bowie was one such for the Fisher Cats. The game was scoreless after 11 innings, as Ismael Ramirez threw a 3-hitter over 8 innings, and Bubbie Buzachero had carried things on from there. In the top of the 12th, Ron Acuna had his second hit of the game. Rob Cosby sacrificed Acuna to second. Erik Kratz singled, but Acuna was thrown out at the plate, with Kratz moving to second on the throw home. Raul Tablado followed with another single, but Kratz was also thrown out at the plate to end the inning. In the bottom half, Bowie scored the decisive run on a sacrifice fly after an error by Mikael Jova to end the game. Reminder memos to the hitters about the importance of adhering to the plan will be sent.

The D-Jays made it three in a row to start the second half as they overcame an early 4-0 deficit with 5 runs in the fourth and 3 in the seventh. In the fourth, Adam Lind and Chip Cannon reached on errors. Robinzon Diaz drove them both him with a triple. Mike Snyder, Scott Dragicevich and Jayce Tingler followed with rbi singles. In the seventh, Lind and Cannon reached on singles to start the frame, and again Diaz tripled them home. David Smith concluded the festivities with a sacrifice fly. Lind ended up 2-5, while Cannon went 2-4 with a walk. Kyle Yates struggled in his Florida State League debut, allowing 4 earned runs in 5.2 innings on 8 hits and 1 walk, with 3 strikeouts, but hung in for the win. Danny Hill and Justin James held the Tigers off the board for the final 3.1 innings, allowing 4 men to reach base and striking out 1.

The Lugnuts scored 2 in the first on a David Hicks homer and then exploded for 8 runs in the 3rd inning to put this one away early. Canadian A.J. Wideman threw a 2-hit shutout over 6 innings, while walking 2 and striking out 3. Po-Hsuang Keng surrendered a 3 run homer in the seventh, but Joey McLaughlin Jr. came on to close out the game in style with 2 shutout innings and 3 strikeouts. Curtis Thigpen doubled twice and walked in 4 trips, while Luke Hetherington and Eugenio Velez had 2 hits each.

Fowler faced 5 batters and allowed 2 baserunners and struck out 1, and vultured the win. Yesson Berroa threw 2 shutout innings with 3 strikeouts for the save. Anthony Garibaldi tripled and reached base 3 times, and scored 3 runs to lead the Doubleday offence, while Joey Metropolous hit his first big fly of the season.

Earlier, Jesus Gonzalez and Chris Martinez had hit solo shots to give Pulaski the lead. Reidier Gonzalez started and went 3 shutout innings, allowing 2 hits and no walks, while striking out 3. Four relievers followed with Eziemir Reynoso pitching the 11th for the win.
