I don't know if Casey Janssen is related to David Janssen who played Dr. Richard Kimble on the old "The Fugitive" TV show, but there was no search for a one-armed man yesterday as the two arms of Janssen and Eric Arnold led Dunedin to victory. Syracuse had no offense, New Hampshire pulled one out in the ninth behind a spot start by Jamie Vermilyea, Lansing had the offense but poor pitching. A 2-2 Sunday on the farm.
Syracuse 0 Louisville 5
With David Bush moving down and Shaun Marcum moving up this might have been Chris Baker's last start for a while and it did not start well, the first three hitters singled to make it 1-0 Louisville. But Baker got a double play ball from Edwin Encarnacion and escaped the first with just the one run deficit. Baker allowed a two out double in the second but then retired ten in a row until Kenny Kelly led off the sixth with a home run to make it 2-0. Meanwhile Syracuse could get nothing going against knuckleballer Jared Fernandez. John Schneider doubled with two out in the third, Julius Matos singled with two out in the sixth, and John Hattig doubled with two out in the seventh, those were the only three hits off Fernandez. Syracuse had a chance against Louisville's bullpen in the eighth, Anton French singled with one out and Schneider walked but Schneider was thrown out on the back end of a double steal. Jason Arnold and Jesse Carlson allowed three runs in the eighth, in part due to an error by Bryant Nelson. Another disappointing offensive performance by Syracuse, but a good start from Chris Baker
Game StoryNew Hampshire 4 New Britain 3
It was Shaun Marcum's turn to start but he is now in AAA and Zach Jackson had pitched on thursday so Jamie Vermilyea got the spot start. Vermilyea was good but not great as he pitched six innings allowing one run. New Britain had nine hits, but no walks, off Vermilyea with the run and three hits coming with two outs in the sixth as Jamie ran out of gas. New Hampshire had a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of that sixth inning, scoring twice in the fourth and one more in the sixth. The two runs in the fourth came on singles by Ron Acuna and Justin Singleton and a double from Vito Chiaravalloti. Bubbie Buzachero pitched a scoreless seventh but allowed back to back jacks in the eighth to tie the game. In the top of the ninth Miguel Negron singled and stole second, and with two out Ron Acuna singled on a slow roller to second and the winning run scored when the second baseman threw it away. Lee Gronkiewicz finished out for his fifteenth save.
Negron, Acuna, Singleton and Brad Hassey had two hits each.
Game StoryVero Beach 1 Dunedin 8
Dunedin scored four runs in the first inning and with Casey Janssen on the mound that was more than enough. Eric Arnold hit a three run home run in the bottom of the first after Jayce Tingler singled and Adam Lind was hit by a pitch. Joey Reiman followed with a double and Tim Whittaker a single to make it 4-0. Janssen struck out five hitters in the first two innings, had a rough inning in the fourth when Vero Beach scored a run on three hits and a hit batter, but then retired the last ten hitters he faced. Dunedin tacked on four more in the sixth, starting with a solo home run by Arnold. That was followed by three hits, two walks and an error that produced three more runs. Justin James and Brad Mumma pitched two shutout innings in relief of Janssen.
Arnold was the offensive star, his two runs and four RBI's led the team. Tingler also had two hits.
Lansing 7 Kane County 10
Russell Savickas made his first start for the Lugnuts and looked good for three innings, but in the fourth the first five hitters reached base and Savickas left with four runs in. Po-Hsuan Keng came on to allow a three run home run, and a solo home run the next inning.
Lansing scored three runs in the second inning, Yuber Rodriguez tripled in two and scored on a single by Juan Peralta. The Lugnuts added four in the seventh, three of them on a home run by Chip Cannon. But Kane County added runs in the eighth off Daryl Harang and that was enough. Curtis Thigpen, the day after going 4-4 to hit .300 on the season, went 0-5. Juan Peralta had three hits.

Dunedin's record is 32-19 which puts them in second place, two and a half games behind Lakeland.
The Lugnuts are 26-23, in third place, three and a half games behind South Bend
