Chiefs and D'Jays waxed, Dayton hands win to Lansing. Janssen's unlucky thirteenth.

Dave Gassner faced off against Ryan Glynn in a veteran matchup. Gassner was a Blue Jay farmhand before being traded to the Twins in the Shannon Stewart deal; Gassner has been a Chief killer ever since. Gassner is back in AAA after two major league starts, filling in for the injured Carlos Silva. Gassner is a Jamie Moyer type control pitcher who may, or may not, make it at the major league level.
Gassner and Glynn had a good duel going through five innings. Glynn allowed three straight hits and a run in the second but that was the only scoring through five. In the top of the sixth an error and a walk preceded a three run home run by Michael Ryan. Glynn left after six innings having allowed four runs, three earned, on five hits and a walk. Syracuse scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth, Andy Dominique walked, Anton French and Bryant Nelson singled to load the bases with no outs, and two ground outs scored the runs. Mike Nannini allowed two runs in the seventh and Spike Lundberg two uneanred runs in the eighth.

Fort Myers 9 Dunedin 5
Fort Myers scored two in the first on three hits and a walk off Davis Romero. Dunedin answered with three runs in the bottom of the first thanks to three errors by Fort Myers. Fort Myers scored five runs in the fourth inning when six of the first seven hitters reached base. That was the end of the night for Romero who allowed seven runs, six earned, in 3.1 innings. Dunedin added two runs in the eighth on four walks and a double by Adam Lind. Justin James pitched 3.2 innings in relief allowing one run on four hits with no walks. Dunedin had five hits, two by Jayce Tingler.
Lansing 6 Dayton 4
Casey Janssen started for Lansing and he retired the first twelve hitters in order. Janssen also retired the last five hitters he faced, it was the thirteenth hitter that gave him problems. The first two hitters in the fifth singled, and after a ground out, another single and a double scored two runs. A ground out scored a third run. Janssen pitched six innings, allowing three runs on four hits and no walks. His ERA is now 1.69.
Eric Nielsen got the Lugnuts started with a solo home run in the second inning, but that was it until the ninth inning. The Lugnuts came in to the ninth down 3-1. The ninth inning went walk, walk, out, out and walk to load the bases without a hit. Ryan Klosterman reached, and a run scored, on catchers interference. Two more runs scored on wild pitches to give the Lugnuts a 4-3 lead, with three runs having scored without a hit. Curtis Thigpen and Cory Patton singled to drive in two more. Danny Hill allowed an unearned run in the ninth and recorded his seventh save. Eric Nielsen was 3-3 with a home run and a walk.
