  1. "Rogers set to buy SkyDome" by Paul Waldie, Jeff Blair, and David Naylor:

      The owners of the Toronto Blue Jays are close to a deal to buy the SkyDome and there have already been discussions with Staples Business Depot about renaming the stadium, sources say.

      Several sources say Rogers Communications Inc. is in the due diligence phase of a deal to acquire the Dome.

      The proposal involves the company paying only a few million dollars for the Toronto stadium and essentially taking over some of its debt, one source said.

    Mark me down as one of the people who really hopes this happens. The turf war (pardon the pun) between Rogers and Sportsco has been bad for the fans. I'd also love to see the 20 to 25 million dollars of renevations discussed in the article.

  3. Anyone else heard anything about this? "Jays place shortstop Woodward on waivers" by Jeff Blair:

      Shortstop Chris Woodward has been placed on waivers by the Toronto Blue Jays, according to a high-ranking major-league source. Woodward will be given his release if he does not accept an assignment to the minor leagues.

  4. "Season From Hell? Not So Fast" by Jim Turner:

      The 2004 season was a huge disappointment for Blue Jays fans. Looking to build on a surprising 86-win season, the team collapsed instead. The Jays jumped out of the gate by dropping 3 straight at home to the 119-loss Detroit Tigers… and things got worse from there. Injuries throughout the lineup, the failure of the brand new, mercenary-stocked bullpen, and an anemic offense saw the Jays slide down the standings, unable to hold their traditional 3rd place position in the East, and prompting Jays fans and members of the media to dub this "the Season From Hell."

  5. And in case you missed it yesterday: Spencer Fordin's "Jays trim six from 40-man roster":

      Toronto trimmed six names from the 40-man roster, outrighting five players to Triple-A Syracuse and losing another to free agency. Bobby Estalella, who had been on the 60-day disabled list, declined his outright assignment and will begin searching for other suitors.

      Four of the five leftovers played for Toronto this season, and three of those four were pitchers. Sean Douglass, Bob File and Mike Nakamura all spent a significant amount of time on the roster, as did utility infielder Howie Clark. Minor league infielder Jorge Sequea was the final player.
