  2. Fordin Notes (by Anthony Castrovince) on Gibbons getting adjusted to his new job and the trade of Josh Phelps.

  3. Ganter Notes on Miguel Batista's back problems, Orlando Hudson's new role as the #2 hitter, and the first week in majors for Gabe Gross. Although it's been reported as a back injury, the source of Batista's pain is still not entirely clear:

      Batista, though, still wants to get it checked out by a doctor because early on one specialist told him it might be a twisted pelvis. Much like golfers who train their bodies to repeat the same swing, a pitcher must repeat the same motion in order to be effective. Such constant repetition of the same movement can result in a twisted pelvis, it is believed.

    Twisted Pelvis? Ouch. It'd make a great name for a metal band, though.

  4. It's a 7:05pm EST start tonight in Cleveland. The Jays are sending the 1-1 Justin Miller to the hill, while the Tribe counters with the 8-6 lefty C.C. Sabathia. MLB.com has a game preview.

  5. Is it possible that Josh Phelps will get even less playing time in Cleveland than he did in Toronto? Mike Ganter's "Phelps struggles for playing time " reports that Phelps has still not appeared in a game for the Indians despite being traded to the club five days ago. The following suggests that Phelps may get less playing time as an Indian:

      "I talked with the manager (Eric Wedge) my first day and he said it might be pretty much the same role I had in Toronto to start off with," Phelps said.

      That would mean getting in the lineup only when the Indians face a left-hander but it might not even be that much.

      "There's no guarantee I'll play every day against lefties," Phelps said. "There's some guys over here who are having real good years and they deserve the right to stay in the lineup."

  7. In "Phelps on Tosca: `The axe had to fall sooner or later' Geoff Baker reports that Josh Phelps isn't surprised that Tosca was fired, but at the same time has nothing bad to say about J.P. or the Jays organization.


I thought I had picked a good week to stop doing Roundups. The trade deadline had passed so I thought there wouldn't be all that much Jays news. I was wrong.
