Syracuse 4 Norfolk 3 (6 innings)
In a rain-shortened contest in Syracuse, Simon Pond’s 2-run double in the 5th inning brought home the game-winning runs. Glenn Williams singled twice and walked, scoring once, while Shawn Fagan homered, singled and scored 2 runs. Ryan Glynn, who has pitched very well since his acquisition last month, went 5 innings and allowed 3 runs on 3 hits and a walk, striking out 4. Dave Maurer got an unexpected rain-aided save.

Altoona 3 New Hampshire 2
Recently demoted Chris Baker threw well for the F-Cats, pitching 5 innings and allowing 2 runs on 5 hits and 1 walk, striking out 5. But the offence again had trouble scoring runs, and reliever Ryan Houston eventually paid the price when he allowed an unearned run in the 8th inning to lose it (2 1/3 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 K). John-Ford Griffin, who continues to pull himself slowly out of his terrible season-long slump, had 2 singles and an RBI, lifting his average to .237. Dominic Rich and Tyrell Godwin each singled in 4 trips, while Justin Singleton wore the golden sombrero with his 4 Ks.

Dunedin 7 Brevard County 6 (10 innings)
They let a 6-2 lead get away and had to rely on a 10th-inning wild pitch to score the winning run, but the D-Jays eventually did secure a victory. Shaun Marcum continued to pitch very well in the FSL, throwing 5 innings of 2-run ball, surrendering 4 hits and 2 walks, and whiffing 6 batters. But Tracy Thorpe and Chad Pleiness combined to let the lead slip away, giving up a total of 3 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks in their 2 1/3 innings, and Brian Reed allowed a game-tying home run leading off the 9th. But Reed was otherwise masterful, with 2 2/3 innings of relief, allowing just the 1 home run on no walks and 5 Ks.
Ryan Roberts led the offence with 3 singles and an RBI, while Raul Tablado crunched his 12th home run (Dunedin’s only extra-base hit) and walked besides. Carlo Cota singled twice and scored, while Big Vito, Manny Mayorson and Miguel Negron each singled and scored.u

Brad Mumma pitched the game of the night for Blue Jays’ farm teams, spinning 6 innings of 1-run ball, scattering 6 hits, walking no one and striking out 7. Mark Sopko got an ugly save by allowing 2 runs in the 9th. William Rivera had 2 hits and 2 RBIs for the Alley-Cats, while Brian Patrick (2 runs scored) and Jermy Acey chipped in with 2 hits of their own.

Pulaski 7 Bluefield 3 (11 innings)
A 2-run double by Greg Powers and a 2-run single by Mike Malacuso gave Pulaski the extra-inning victory. Jordan Timm had helped stake the P-Jays to an early lead with 5 innings of 6-hit ball, allowing 2 runs, with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. Adrian Martin followed with 2 shutout innings of relief (1 H, 0 BB, 2 K), but Derek Tate allowed a one-out homer in the 9th to tie the score (sound familiar?). Tate redeemed himself, though, with 3 more shutout innings, allowing just 1 other hit 1 walk and 4 whiffs. In addition to the extra-inning heroes, DH Jon Chappell cracked a 2-run homer, while CF Yuber Rodriguez doubled and walked twice. Nick Thomas doubled, walked and scored a run.
