Two heartbreaking losses, and solid pitching in Dunedin, Charleston and Auburn were the highlights of a 3-4 record on Saturday for the farm affiliates.
Syracuse 8 Buffalo 9
The Sky Chiefs' bullpen could not hold a 8-2 lead left to them. Ouch. Sean Douglass started and struggled through 5 innings, but allowed only those 2 runs. Mike Nakamura, Jason Kershner and Kevin Frederick were the victims in the Bisons' comeback. Guillermo Quiroz and Shawn Fagan hit 2 run homers early to help stake Syracuse to the lead. The Bisons drew over 17,000 to the game. The boxscore is not available at writing.
In other news, Carlos Delgado joins the team today, and Russ Adams missed the game due to rib soreness sustained in Friday's game.

Effective relief from Andy Torres and Jordan DeJong was the only bright spot in a Fisher Cat loss. Todd Ozias went 4.1 innings, allowing 5 runs, 2 of which were unearned after an Aaron Hill error. Ozias gave up 9 hits and 2 walks, hit a batter and struck out 6. Torres allowed 2 baserunners in 2.2 innings and Jordan DeJong threw a perfect inning with 1 strikeout. Aaron Hill, Mike Snyder and Paul Chiaffreddo each reached base twice as the bright spots in a lackluster offence.

The Baby Jays scored a run in the 7th inning and three in the 8th to break open a close game. Ron Davenport tripled and homered, and Raul Tablado reached base four times to pace the offence. Ryan Roberts chipped in with 2 singles and a walk. Neomar Flores started and went 7 innings, allowing a run on 4 hits and 4 walks with 5 strikeouts. Tommi Ozuna and Brian Reed each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

Charleston 5 Delmarva 1
There was one fine pitching matchup in Delmarva last night: Thomas Mastny against Canadian Adam Loewen. The starters did not disappoint. Mastny went 6 innings allowing 1 earned run on 5 hits and 1 walk with 6 strikeouts. Loewen was fine: 5 innings, 1 run on 2 hits and 2 walks, and 6 strikeouts. The Alley-Cats broke up the game with 2 runs in the eighth. The bases loaded on a walk to Christian Snavely, and singles by Juan Peralta and Jermy Acey with one out. Joey Reiman hit a ground ball to second who made the play on Acey unassisted and threw to 1st, but first baseman Dustin Yount made an error and 2 runs scored. Eric Arnold drove in 3 runs with 2 singles for Charleston. Felix Romero pitched 2 perfect innings with 3 strikeouts for the win. Jordy Templet finished up and gave up 2 hits in an inning of work.

Doubleday pitchers threw a combined 5 hitter as Auburn cruised to victory. Starter Randy Dicken gave up no runs in 2 innings on 3 hits and 1 walk, with 4 strikeouts. Chris Neylan threw 2 solid innings with 3 strikeouts, Jayson Rodriguez allowed no baserunners in 3 innings for the win, and Chris Leonard threw the last 2 innings, allowing 3 baserunners but no runs. Chip Cannon hit his 2nd homer and singled, Joey Metropolous went 2-2 and was hit by a pitch, and Aaron Matthews also had 2 hits.

Yesson Berroa gave up 3 early runs, and the P-Jays could manage only 3 hits in their second straight loss. Berroa allowed 7 hits and 1 walk in 4 innings, while striking out 2. Four wild pitches contributed as well to his poor outing. James Pidutti and Scott Roy pitched one scoreless inning of relief each, while allowing two baserunners each. Charles Anderson drove in the Pulaski run with a single.

Pulaski 2 Elizabethton 3- 2nd game
The P-Jays lost a heartbreaker in extras. After scoring a run in the top of the eighth on a Yuber Rodriguez double, the P-Jays surrendered 2 with two outs in the bottom of the eighth to take the loss. Michael Rider allowed 3 hits and 1 walk without retiring anyone to take the loss. Adrian Martin started and went 4.1 innings and struck out 6. He allowed one earned run on 6 hits and no walks. Derek Tate went 3.1 shutout innings, allowing two baserunners and striking out one. Rodriguez drove in the other Pulaski run with a sacrifice fly. The P-Jays struck out 13 times, with catcher Gooby Gerlits leading the way with three whiffs. What are the odds of Gooby and Yuber playing on the same ball club?
