In geometric order
An insulated border
In between the bright lights
And the far unlit unknown
Welcome to your Canada Day edition of Jays Roundup.
- I was all ready to say something clever about the Rays and Jays trading shutouts but then Eric Hinske goes and ruins it for me. Oh, well, my fantasy team needed the RBIs. To read other clever things about the Jays and Rays see Anthony Gagliano's "Jays stifled by Brazelton, Rays", Paul C. Smith's "Rays end June on winning note", Mike Rutsey's "Towers tumbles", Larry Millson's "Toronto's woes continue" and Mark Zwolinski's "Faulty Towers and rubber bats". A Fawlty Towers reference! I love the episode where Basil keeps talking about World War II to a German tourist who is getting sick of hearing about it:
German: "Will you stop mentioning the war?"
Basil: " You started it."
German: " We did not start it."
Basil: " Yes you did, you invaded Poland..."
Classic stuff! - Fordin Notes (by Anthony Gagliano) on Hentgen's demotion to the bullpen and Delgado's rehab. The Hentgen story is quite popular today; Larry Millson has more details about it in "Hentgen dropped to bullpen". Still no word on who will pitch Friday's game, though Bauxites have been throwing the name David Bush around a lot lately. I have a feeling it may end up being Nakamura and a cast of thousands. The AP story "Hentgen dropped from rotation" disagrees stating "The Blue Jays plan to call up a minor league pitcher to take Hentgen's spot in the rotation Friday against Montreal in Puerto Rico. The move is expected to be announced Thursday." We'll just have to wait and see!
- TODAY'S GAME STARTS AT 2:15PM EST. Just wanted to make sure you didn't miss it. It should be a good one: The Jays are sending up the 6-5 Miguel Batista, while the Rays counter with the 5-5 Lefty Lurch Hendrickson. Anthony Gagliano has a game preview.
Daily Diversion: Library and Archives Canada. Am I the only one who gets the sense that most Canadians know very little about the history of our country?
