Tough outing for Josh Towers last night as he gave up 2 homers and 6 runs in 2 2/3 innings. Bob File scattered 5 hits in 3 1/3 innings to keep them in the game, but it was not meant to be as the Jays lost 6-1.
- Want more detail than that? Try Spencer Fordin's "Blue Jays can't solve Ishii", Ian Harrison's "Offense wakes up and lefty cruises", Larry Millson's "Gagné guest stars at SkyDome to standing ovation", Mark Zwolinski's "Jays can't dodge L.A. sluggers", Mike Rutsey's "Towers toppled", and CP's "Jays give one back to Dodgers".
- Fordin Notes on the catching situation. Zaun will start most games, Cash is the backup. Estalella is "banged up" right now and will likely only pinch hit for the next week. As long as Rios is on the big club he'll get the bulk of the playing time in right field, pushing Johnson to left, Cat to DH, and Phelps to the bench.
- The 27-33 Jays start a series with the 24-36 Diamondbacks tonight, sending 2-5 Pat Hentgen to counter the Snakes 2-5 knuckler Steve Sparks. As always, Spencer Fordin has a game preview. Will the Cheer Club be out in full force tonight?
- As always, there's lots of great stuff over at The Hardball Times, such as "The Boys of Moneyball, Again" and "Draft Notes" by Aaron Gleeman and "The Magic Twenty (Center Field)" by Craig Burley and Aaron Gleeman. Will Carroll was right when he called Gleeman a "factory" but was way off the mark with the word that preceeded factory.
Daily Diversion: A map of Springfield. If that doesn't turn your crank, how about The COMPLETE Pricing Game Directory! (possibly the greatest website ever created).
