How Scandinavian of me.
Before we begin, I'd like to publicly wish Batter's Box staffer Jonny German a happy birthday! Have a good one, Jonny.
- Fordin Notes on yesterday's game against former Jay and current beanpole Mark Hendrickson.
- Fordin reports that "Phelps has old-fashioned approach. I hope this doesn't lead Phelps to adopt the Babe Ruth diet! Phelps talk of an old-fashioned approach lead T. Herman Zweibel to ask "Who Will Win the Base-Ball Matches?".
- MLB.com has the report from yesterday's 7-4 Cyanocitta cristata victory over Manta birostris.
- The Sun has the AP report and boxscore.
- Larry Millson of the Globe looks back at the Hendrickson for Speier deal in "Traded pitchers begin to settle in with their new teams". He also discusses Miguel Batista, who wasn't traded, but is new nonetheless.
- This one is a must-read. Jeff Blair talks to Earl Weaver in "Skippers getting older, better". This is probably an extreme opinion, but I think Frank Robinson is the most underrated manager of the last 30 years. He performed miracles in Cleveland, San Fran, and Baltimore, and he's doing it again in Montreal.
- In "Call it the Post-Jays Club", Geoff Baker discusses former Jays such as Shannon Stewart and Jose Cruz, who all live in the same area in Florida.
- A Texas newspaper has an interview with Vernon Wells Jr., the father of Jays centerfielder Vernon Wells III.
- Dave Perkins asks "Where have all the left-handers gone?". If David Wells is any indication, they're at the buffet table.
- Sun writer Mike Rutsey's headline writer must be stopped. "Jays looking for better return on Cash" is the latest title crime against humanity. It's high time I informed the International Court of Justice in Den Haag.
- Mike Rutsey also reports that " Roy Halladay is putting the final polish on his new pitch". I guess Halladay is taking advice from Gaylord Perry now. True story: About 15 years ago, a pitcher in Pee Wee was kicked out of a local tournament for using pickle relish to doctor baseballs. I've heard of using various lubricants like KY or vasoline, but never hot-dog condiments.
I won't be around tomorrow, but don't worry, we'll have a Roundup type thread. I'll be away all weekend, doing what I can for Canadian democracy at the Conservative convention. If you're watching on TV, look for the stylishly dressed guy with pink hair.
Also, don't forget that March 27th is Baseball Day in Canada!
