The game I'll be keeping an eye on (other than Doc's impending 22nd win) is Florida at Atlanta (Mark Redman versus Mike Hampton). This is Florida's last road game of the regular season: a win would leave them a game up with a 3 to play at home against the Phillies beginning Tuesday.

Oakland stunned Gil Meche and the Mariners with 5 runs in the 2nd on route to a 12-zip shellacking. The AL West is all but Oakland's - there's every chance they'll wrap it up with Texas in town (they need only to match the Mariners' performance versus the Angels). The Mariners lost ground to the Pedro Sox and only poor play by Boston versus also-rans can save Seattle now.

Mark Prior threw 131 pitches, but I suppose this was a must-win for the Cubbies psychologically. Prior is set to make his last start Friday and so might not be ready for an eventual game 1 showdown in Atlanta versus ... well, who knows who Cox will start in game 1. The Cardinals rallied from an early 4-2 deficit to stay alive.

Philly blew their chance of leapfrogging the Marlins by losing again to the dismembered carcass of the Cincinnati Reds. They have to go into enemy territory beginning Tuesday to face Florida. Suddenly, it's not looking good for the Phightin' Phils. The Cubs have their sights sets on a division title (look for Houston to appear on this chart soon). The Dodgers saved themselves for the moment but must now play the rest of their games on the road. Arizona bowed out of the race - their presence on this chart is a mere formality.

The Braves moved ahead of the Giants for NL homefield with a convincing win over the Marlins. The Dodgers hit 4 homeruns on route to a 7-5 victory over the Giants, while Barry Bonds rested. The Yankees mathematically clinched a playoff birth on Sunday - their magic number for the AL East title is 2.

The Twins have been the crown princes of the AL Central since they swept the White Sox earlier in the week. The coronation should take place by Thursday.
