I'm mailing it in today. Forgive me.
Darren Bragg has been getting regular time all year from Bobby Cox, recently starting in left field, and is hitting .113/.171/.127 in his 78 plate appearances. This is well below the average for MLB pitchers, who are hitting .144/.177/.188.
The Yankees are now apparently targeting Ugueth Urbina, which should please Red Sox fans to no end. No one has any idea what exactly the Yankees are going to offer in any trade for someone like Urbina, because I think they essentially have nothing left to trade. It will be interesting to see what can be done. Any Yankee on the major leauge roster won't be traded for, of course, because it's common knowledge that the owner will eventually panic and force the GM to waive any player you are interested in anyway, provided you wait long enough.
Another entry for the Hall of Hilarious Injuries, as Kaz Sasaki goes on the 15-day DL after suffering bruised ribs from a fall. It seems Sasaki fell while trying to lug his suitcase up the stairs of his home. The Mariners had been on a 12-game roadtrip. I shudder to think how many Expos players are going to be crippled on their staircases after returning from their 25-day odyssey in a week's time.
This article on Melvin Mora caught my eye today. Mora has quite good defensive numbers at shortstop, and he's always impressed me personally as a shortstop on the occasions I've seen him play, he does everything tolerably well... he just makes a lot of errors, maybe 8-10 per season more than average over a full year. The Orioles are employing the execrably bad Deivi Cruz to play short, who isn't even the equal of Mora defensively and has a .260 OBP to boot. Since even Baltimore don't employ fourth outfielders who hit as badly as Cruz, why not stop shuttling Mora all around the diamond, and put him where he belongs in the middle infield? You can then play a left fielder in left field, and get a much better bat in the lineup to boot.
