BBFL: New Leader (Again)

Three weeks of play, three different first-place teams in our Yahoo league. I'm aware that my sudden rise to the top of the standings is about as significant as the K.C. Royals' fast start. My pitching (except for Cliff Politte) has been superb, as Jason found out in a 10-1 shellacking -- 61 IP, 3 W, 5 SV, 2.21 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 3.07 K/BB should earn a few category wins in most matchups, and this week it was good enough for a 6-0 split. Heading into a collision with Billies Bashers, with the Gashouse Gorillas on deck, no trash will be talked here -- I'm not overconfident, just cautiously optimistic.

Here's the standings after three weeks of the 22-week regular season:

1 Toronto Walrus 26- 9-1 .736 -
2 Baird Brain 24- 9-3 .708 1
3 gashouse gorillas 24-11-1 .681 2
4 Springfield Isotopes 22-12-2 .639 3.5
5 Billies Bashers 21-14-1 .597 5
6 Nation Builders 19-15-2 .556 6.5
7 Hannibals Cannibals 19-16-1 .542 7
8 Reykjavik Fish Candy 19-17-0 .528 7.5
9 AGF 16-16-4 .500 8.5
10 Sub-Urban Shockers 16-16-4 .500 8.5
11 Eastern Shore Birds 17-18-1 .486 9
12 Chatsworth Halos 16-18-2 .472 9.5
13 Red Mosquitos 16-18-2 .472 9.5
14 Mebion Glyndwr 16-19-1 .458 10
15 Jicks Rays 13-20-3 .403 12
16 Moscow Rats 11-20-5 .375 13
17 Garces_not_on_roids 13-22-1 .375 13
18 K-Town Mashers 13-23-0 .361 13.5
19 Geoffs Grumpy Group 11-23-2 .333 14.5
20 Thunderbirds 10-26-0 .278 16.5

Even a lopsided HtH victory can be extremely close; one big day by a Jick's Rays hitter and one great start by a pitcher could have turned this "rout" into a split:

Team R RBI SB AVG OBP SLG IP W SV ERA WHIP K/BB Score
Baird Brain 41 41 5 .280 .371 .445 61.1 5 4 3.08 1.37 2.08 11
Jicks Rays 38 38 2 .259 .366 .500 54.1 3 3 4.14 1.40 1.54 1

All 20 owners are active, which is great. What surprises me is how busy people have been. I'm usually the league leader in "Moves" because I like to troll for free agent bargains, but not in this group -- five owners have made more transactions, and I'm tied with three others near the middle of the pack. We've made a lot of deals, probably because there's not much help on the waiver wire. I'd still talk trade, especially if someone wants a closer and is willing to pay market value. Could be a 2-for-1, I'd move Baez or Julio and an OF (Bradley? Mench?) for one better hitter or a decent starter.
