According to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, The Ford C. Frick Award is "presented annually to a broadcaster for major contributions to the game of baseball." Nobody on the list of nominees is more deserving than Tom Cheek. Vote for him, and vote for him often.

But I'm curious: if I vote my full thirty times, will I receive in my mailbox thirty copies of the Hall of Fame catalogue?
Btw, if 100 people here vote all 30 days then Tom would be half way to making it to the final ballot with 3000 votes.
Last year the winner had 14,490 votes (Jerry Coleman San Diego) while Tom had 6,958 to come in second and Ron Santo had 5,848 for the 3rd and final fan voting slot.
That's two.
Thank you for contributing to the 2006 Ford C. Frick Award voting process. The results will be announced in December.
Please be advised that only one ballot per person, per day, will be accepted.
November 2 out of the way (I'm 2 for 2)
yesterday was my bday tho, so I have an excuse...
I'm just voting for Tom. Of course, I can't tell you all who to vote for...
this award will go to Tom Cheek. Make sure of it by voting for Tom, and only Tom
...Say, what do you know? It looks like I can!
3/3.
"Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three."
Tell your friends. I'm talking to any Jays fans at my table tonight about it.
If Tom could show up 4,306 consecutive times, we can each do it 30. Or 27, if you start today.
Can we get one of the cabal members to keep this thread at the top of the page?
4/4 here too. Lets keep clicking!
"The request cannot be processed at this time. The amount of traffic exceeds the Web site's configured capacity."
Keep it coming, Bauxites.
The Hall of Fame wanted no part of me on Saturday. Now I know how Pete Rose feels.
So it's not 5-for-5 with a rainout, it's a win-loss record of 5-0 with a rainout. Finally, personal W-L totals that mean something!
That is all I could find about Tom's competitors thus far. Wonder how strong some of them are?
4 for 6.
Pick me up, guys..
1. Denny Matthews KC Royals 1969-present
2. Dave Van Horne Expos 1969-2000 Marlins 2001 to present
3. Dave Niehaus 1969-1976 Angels; Mariners 1977 to present
Like Tom Cheek; Niehaus is the last original Mariners employee
Tom Cheek compares favorably well with those 3. It would be nice to see a Cheek/Niehaus ticket in 2006 which is 30th anniversary of the Blue Jays and Mariners.
7 for 7
Once Cheek gets in I'd love to see Dave Van Horne get in. Poor guy had to do net broadcasts as that was the only English outlet for the Expos one season iirc, back in the 90's.
I have a nickname for how many times I've voted for Tom Cheek.
It's called the Octagon.
Two errors in nine chances? That's not even good enough for the Royals outfield. Close, maybe. Though I think we've all agreed it's actually 7-8.
I would like to suggest something new. One of us could tell a brief Tom Cheek anecdote each day. I'll lead off.
My favourite Tom Cheek call was not the famous "touch em all, Joe", but rather his call in 1992 after Timlin to Carter ended the Series. "The Blue Jays are World Series champtions." It would have been very easy in the excitement of the moment to let slip: "The Blue Jays are World Champions", but Tom knew the importance of the distinction- that the World Series was a series between the champions of two American baseball leagues, originally sponsored by the New York World, and not a competition between great baseball nations. And, Tom possessed the cool to make this plain in the heat of the moment, notwithstanding his years of devotion to the team- all the consecutive broadcasts and winter caravans, and notwithstanding the heartbreaks of 1985 and 1987.
9.
While I appreciate the anecdote and I agree with the distinction between world champion and World Series champion, the bit about the New York World is just a legend:

My favourite Tom Cheek moment involved Jerry Howarth. It was the sixth game of the 1992 World Series and it had gone into extra innings. Tom had called the 9th and 10th, as usual, and then it was Jerry's turn in the 11th. But when the Jays took the lead in the top of the 11th, Jerry (in a class move I will always respect him for) handed the mike back to Tom for the bottom, so that he'd get to make the call when they won.
It was Tom's reaction that I remember. He seemed genuinely surprised and touched, and it took half a moment for him to find his feet again. Just a reminder of how humble he was.
At 2:45 a.m.
Tomorrow's another day,
And I'll do it all again. :)
Bingo calls the rest of the month.
This is the 11th time
With only 19 days to go
I hope we're doing fine

Who are the other broadcasters have people voted for?
My favourite Tom Cheek memory has to be from the 2004 season. (I was too young to remember "Touch 'em all" so that's not really a memory.) It was the day of his ceremony at SkyDome and Mike Wilner was absolutely freaking out over having to cover the play-by-play for the first inning. Because as any Blue Jay fan knows, Tom Cheek does the first inning. He always has.
Actually, that's not so much of a Tom memory as it is a Wilner memory, so I'll go with the fourth inning of the season opener this past year. You all surely remember what happened when the Cheekster took over the microphone. In fact, Jamie Campbell said it best shortly thereafter:
What an excellent start to the season, and it was great to hear Cheek get a call. Apparently, he strolled into the booth, and Jerry convinced him to call the 4th. Next thing you know, Hudson and Wells go back-to-back. How about those Blue Jays!!
It's the captain and the crew of the "unicorn"

Tim (the liar) Johnson (switched from #16), Domingo Ramos, Mark (the original 'way back') Bomback (switched from #45), Randy (leader of the hand grenade brigade) Moffitt, Kelly ('The Natural') Gruber, Robert Perez, Dave Hollins, Curtis ('I quit') Goodwin, Josh (Swiss Cheese) Phelps, Chris Michalak, and Eric Crozier. Kelly Gruber in a landslide. Solid defence at 3rd and a career offensive year in 1990. Tom would have liked Crozier's glove. His bat? Not so much. Is Curtis Goodwin's Blue Jay career the shortest to have ended voluntarily? He played 2 games in 1999 and retired. I really wish Phelps could've figured things out because if he had, our current search for a slugger might not be as intense. IIRC, those that were lucky enough to attend the 1982 home opener against Milwaukee got to see 'the bomber' (Bomback), but uh, not for long... 15-4? Ouch!
If I do say so myself. :-)
And the voting page is still down...
Given the difficulty in voting today lets yak about who will go in with Tom eh? Or should this be saved for a future thread? Ah well. Might as well type something :)
It looks like a weak class for Cooperstown next year with no one in the new list looking like a HOFer to me.
http://www.baseballhalloffame.org/hof_weekend/future_elections.htm
Albert Belle, Will Clark, Dwight Gooden and Orel Hershiser are the best candidates but none should make it. Belle was hated by the media and had his career ended too early. Clark was a darling but played at first base and didn't have the peak needed or the length needed. Gooden is a 'what if', while Hershiser was dang good but just didn't do enough to make it given who else has been kept out.
This might be Blyleven's year although the favorites have to be Bruce Sutter (66.7% last year), Jim Rice (59.5%), Goose Gossage (55.2%), and Andre Dawson (52.3%). Blyleven is next at 40.2%. My ballot would have Goose, Blyleven, Tommy John, and Alan Trammell. The love for Sutter makes no sense to me as he had a short career and, imo, isn't in the class of Goose, Fingers, Wilhelm and Eckersley. I put Sutter in the same class as Henke and others like him who were damn good for awhile but not long enough or legendary enough for the HOF as it stands now for relievers. Rice and Dawson land with Dale Murphy as guys who are better than many in, but imo are short of what should be in.
and I don't know what I want

Back on the horse again; 19 of 20.
Does anybody know what time zone they are using for the "one vote per day" rule? I'd hate to vote late at night out west and have my vote the next day nullified because I was after midnight eastern time.
Too bad you're still stuck all the way down at 20...
So much has flown between the years

Rob at 4 a.m.? I suppose voting is a welcome respite...
Yeah, sure. I'd kill for a small glass of respite right about now.
When the password screen came up, I just left both fields blank and clicked OK. It worked.
The voting page still takes a long, long time. Of course, I'm not Scott Podsednik at 6:51 AM, so who am I to judge?
25 for Carlos.
When IE causes a no, Firefox should be there for you with a yes.

Not a bad month. Finally done voting until January 23.
Baseball fans remember the past, both for the good and the bad. Tom Cheek's game-calling skill and dedication to the game will be one of the things that I will always look back upon.
It's the least we could do for Tom. Hopefully it was enough.
We miss you, Tom.
Best of luck, Tom, wherever you are.
from the article:
"King, Niehaus and Doucet were selected through online fan voting, while the remaining seven were selected by a Hall of Fame research committee."
i can't believe all we did didn't get tom voted in. but he's there and that's what matters.
It's like the All-Star game -- who cares if the fans voted someone in as the "extra man" in the online vote if that player is already on the team?
Obviously all of the effort put into getting Tom Cheek onto last year's ballot through internet voting paid off this year.
