Erik Bedard will make his second major league start, this one against the team from his home province.
Anyone know a radio station website that has a "listen live" feed i can use for the yanks/bo sox game? Doesnt matter to me if its NY or Boston, just want to listen to it.

COMN for a good site with links to sports radio feeds. I did find one at WNTK that was working, but it's a bit late, 9th inning now...

Lineups for today:
Toronto
Johnson RF
Gomez 2B
Wells CF
Delgado 1B
Phelps DH
Hinske 3B
Cash C
Berg LF
Woodward SS
Baltimore
Roberts 2B
Mora 3B
Tejada SS
Palmeiro DH
Lopez C
Gibbons RF
Segui 1B
Matos CF
Bigbie LF
I think if anything I hope that every ball gets hit to Vernon today, that infield doesn't inspire a lot of confidence, nor does Gomez hitting second. Hopefully Delgado can keep up the hotter hitting and Bedard struggles with his control again.

hey Mark, thanks ALOT. A bit late sure, but it'll come in real handy on later days.

Why does Tosca take Cat out against lefties? The guy is a professional hitter, career .300, and currently not in bad form (especially not compared to the rest). His platoon splits don't appear totally awful. Surely he's a better bat than Berg? Or maybe his back is bad tonight?
Nice AB from Reed to start the game. The Flames are getting dominated at the moment so I'll hang with the Jays.
Andrew K: his platoon splits are actually pretty bad, OPS .868 v right and .666 v left over last 3 years. Although, that is only in 140 AB v left and he'd probably improve if he had some more chances. That begin said, I'd be inclined to let him play a bit more too. Berg's 3-year OPS v left is .694 in 242 AB.
Reed's AB was trademark Sparky. Made the pitcher throw about 10 pitches and then fly out. Gomez and Wells strike out. Bedard looks to have good stuff.
I wonder if Cat is having back problems, even understanding that Berg hasn't had much playing time this yeat.
I also worry about Gomez at 2B. His range hasn't looked much all year. For all that O-Dog is struggling with the bat I'd prefer to see him in.
I wonder if Tosca is acting by reflex in putting Gomez in, on the strength of not many ABs. I can't believe he's a serious hitter. If JP acted with the same reflex, Tosca would have been gone two weeks ago!
Of course I'm just saying this so that Gomez will hit another grand slam and made umpteen DPs.

I don't agree with making organizational decisions based on small sample sizes. However, I don't see anything wrong with it with day to day lineups (to a point). It's good for team morale if they know that the manager will reward success. Of course, we don't want this to be taken to Ensberglike extremes.
Bedard's curveball is evil...
The one that got Phelps moved sideways about 2 feet to catch the outside corner.
Ugh, Hentgen walks Mora and then leaves one hanging right out for Tejada who homers (and limps around the bases!?)
3-0 Orioles in the 3rd

A question for Coach, who may not be on board this afternoon.
One out, men on first and second, Gomez up, count is 0-1. He's taking a long, hard look at his third base coach. What on earth could the sign possibly be, other than "get a hit"?
Woodward and Johnson aren't going to be moving. Gomez would likely not be asked to bunt with 0 outs, let alone with 1. It's not like the count is 3-0 and Gomez is being given the obligatory take sign.

Well, well. Berg and Woodward drive in Delgado and Phelps. 3-2 O's, and Bedard can take his nasty curveball away with him.
Anybody else surprised that Faulds didn't know that Hundley held the record for HRs by a catcher prior to last season?
My fantasy team and the Jays thank you and your bat Mr. Cash. Keep hitting!
Such a tease you are, Jerry... "That ball is up, up, UP, that ball is....caught"
BTW, Cash is money!
BTW, Cash is money!
Woodward and Delgado both have their averages above .200 now. That leaves only Hinske, Johnson and Hudson as regulars batting below the Mendoza line. They're on a roll!
Great eye by Sparky on that AB. Im also quite jealous of Baltimore's 41k attendance tonight. We need to get that in the Dome (in a perfect world).
Erie, PA-- Coach, Robert and Gerry are are in the first row behind the dugout for the Fisher Cat's game. He says the weather is very fine, but will not report on the beer until after his broadcast gig which begins in the 4th inning.
Jerry Uht Park is a beauty, and BB's stringers have talked with Tosca and Canadian Olympic Team candidate, Matt Logan.
Coach was pleased to hear of the Delgado knock and the Cash pick off Perhaps there'll be more later.

I was in Erie for a wedding last September. Yuengling seems to be the PA brew of choice 'mongst the locals - it was the keg beer at the reception, as well as the bestseller at the hotel bar
All of these fringe pitchers (Rodrigo Lopez, Nate Robertson...) looking good against the Blue Jays , well, sucks.
*growls* Wells strikes out with 2 outs and 2 men on in the bottom of the eigth.
any nods to make Adams the closer??? He seems to be the most dependable from there so far...

Hmmmm, sounds like Carlos tried to make like Ozzie Smith vs. Jeff Burroughs with his barehand. It ended in an out, but it didn't sound pretty.
I think I like Adams doing what he's doing and making Speier "closer".
Well, The Gatekeeper gets the Jays into the ninth with a chance to take the game...
Speier is warming up... Here comes Cash to face Ryan... As we all know, Cash is money!
Base hit for Cash. He's on first, Clark is on Second and Berg is at the plate...
Berg "hit one on the screws" but lined it right at Brian Roberts, 2 more LOB.
Speier tries to shut down the O's now.
Wait a second! Am I the only one that didn't know Speier lived in Quebec for ahwile and that his dad played with the Expos?
On the 1-2 count, Brian Roberts hits a loud flyball to Reed Johnson for the first out of the game. Here coems Mora who is 2-3 with 2 singles. 0-1.

Full Count on Mora. A nubber to Speier, he's out. 1 out away from *anticipatory music* Extra innings!
Is anticipatory a word?

You know your bored when... You're 17 on a Saturday and you're talking to yourself on a baseball website ;-)
Back to the matter at hand, we are indeed off to extras now.

Coach is on the Fisher Cats broadcast right now!
Coach is on the Fisher Cats broadcast right now!
I posted a link in the Minor League thread for the online broadcast.
Tip: you have to delete the 'http://' from the front of the url for it to work.
Here comes Jorge Julio and BJ Surhoff comes onto play first base. He's coming with 97 MPH heat right away, then an 83 MPH slider both for strikes. Sounds filthy. Now he's back up to 98 MPH. *eep*!
Out no. 1 on a flyout.
Catalanotto is pinch hitting for Sparky now... 0-2 on two fouls, 98 MPH again on the second pitch. Cat has worked back to 2-2... Full count! Cat takes a walk on the check swing.
From Peter Gammons' April 19 chat:
Shaun(Toronto): Did somebody steal Toronto's bats?
Peter Gammons: You know Vernon Wells is going to hit but Delgado's knee is of concern. They don't have a really deep lineup. They need those two big guys.

2 outs with a man on first now, as Hudson flies out to Center and now Wells is up. A WP has the F-Cat in scoring position now! Ah well, a second straight flyout to Matos and we're headed to the bottom of the 10th and I head out. It was nice talking with, well, with me.
Anyone think that Wells' struggles may be a result of him trying to hard to compensate for Delgado's slump? I don't have anything to back it up. Just an idea.
So I lied and came back ;-) I'm listening to the Fisher Cats now, though. Is it only Coach and the play by play guy in the booth?
Carlos with his fourth hit of the day. He's up to .226 now. Great to see.
"Put a maple leaf next to that one in the scorebook"
Job well done, Coach!
Job well done, Coach!
2nd and 3rd with one out becomes no runs and 3 outs. Only with the Blue Jays....
Anyone think that Wells' struggles may be a result of him trying to hard to compensate for Delgado's slump?
I think Wells has his hands full just concentrating on his own slump, let alone Delgado's. The chain of causation linking Wells' 0-for-6 to Delgado's 4-hit game would be tenuous.

Kent might have the play-by-play guy out of job if he sticks around much longer :-)
I'm pleasantly surprised with Kent's ability as an actual analyst. I expected his stay in the booth to be of the half inning variety and that it would mostly be a prolonged plug for Da Box. If only we could get Wilner and Coach in the booth on sportsnet :-P

Faulds should be looking over his shoulder too...
Faulds should be looking over his shoulder too...
That looks like a run...Now no one say the W word til the final out's recorded!
Guys not watching on TV, the catch by Catalanotto to rob Tejada in the bottom of the 11th was just awesome -- highlight-reel stuff. Previously the fans had been chanting "let's go home".
FauldsWatch: on a Delgado strikeout: (at top of voice): "INSIDE FOR STRIKE THREE!". Later on: "inside for a strike". Man, twice in one game.
Woodward just hit a leadoff double off the wall, and scored on a F-Cat single -- Jays take the lead.
The bullpen has looked pretty good.. Adams had guys off balance, hitting weak grounders. Speier was hitting his spots, throwing some really nasty breaking stuff. Ligtenberg has also looked good, although the defensive snafu with Cash in the 11th nearly cost the game.

What an impressive job by the Jays bullpen. Good game all around, and who better tomorrow than Doc to go for the first win streak* of the year?
*where win streak implies more than one game :)

Tosca's ejection, and subsequent Jays victory, the 2004 turning-point?
Just following the game online it looks like a nice win. Delgado's getting hot now and there were 7 scoreless innings from the bullpen today.
It's coming around slowly, but you can sense the team is turning it around.

The Jays have a .667 winning percentage in their last three games. If they keep that pace the rest of the year, they'll finish the season with 102 wins.
Way to introduce the ingenious "E-10" tot he masses, Coach!
If they keep today's pace, their bullpen will pitch another 1015 scoreless innings and Delgado will finish with a .637 batting average and 149 homeruns.
And Delgado will *still* get left off of one MVP ballot and ultimately finish second...
oops... by "DL News" I meant "Donkit R.K.". When I put the D in for my name, about 6 options show up for my name. I , obviously, picked the wrong one.

After six strong innings in the booth, the Fisher Cats' post-game crew have taken back the airwaves. It was a pleasure listening and it's only a matter of time 'til we see Williams up in Syracuse ;-)
I concur that Kent was pretty good as analyst. "League hasn't thrown a pitch above the knees."
After the game, Toronto designated right-hander Josh Towers for assignment and optioned right-hander Aquilino Lopez to triple-A Syracuse. The Blue Jays purchased the contract of right-hander Justin Miller from Syracuse and recalled right-hander Micheal Nakamura from the same club
A bit surprising Towers was ditched so quickly, but my pre-season prediction was that he'd be gone by the end of May at the very latest. With the way Miller was pitching in Syracuse after a decent spring, it was only a matter of time before this move was made.
A few people here called the Nakamura-for-Lopez move. I thought it might even happen before today's game.

Am I the only one who thinks this Bonds thing is getting out of hand? He's intentionally walked in the first inning of the Dodgers game. I know he's hitting .714 in the last 10 but still, at least act like you're going to pitch to him. It's ridiculous.
I'm not convinced that Miller can succeed in the big leagues, but I do think he has more upside than Towers. Lopez, on the other hand, will be back.
I heard most of the game today on the radio, and sounded as though Rodrigo Lopez had regained his form of 2 years ago. A rotation of Ponson, Riley, Lopez, Dubose and Ainsworth sounds pretty serviceable to me. With that lineup, they don't need to throw shutouts, just 6 solid innings most times out.
Anyways, there were a number of solid at-bats from Jay hitters today, going deep into counts. I think that the bats have returned for good. Whoever has Sidney Ponson in the BBFL, my wholly unsolicited advice is to sit him tomorrow.

Mike Green,
That would be me with Ponson in the BBFL (Barfield at least). Right now, I'm barely holding on to a lead in WHIP and K/BB with a healthy lead in wins and innings; so I was planning on sitting Ponson anyway. However, my decision is a much easier one considering the sterling advice you gave me with Dubose on Friday. How would you like a job managing the Edmonton Decepticons full-time? At least I can keep you on as a "Gillick" like advisor...as long as that doesn't make me Bavasi.
Looking over my roster I have a four Orioles (Ponson, Dubose, BJ Ryan, and Javy Lopez). These Jays-O's games will kill me by the end of the year.

Delgado, yes; Wells, no. On the at-bats that I can remember, Vernon was swinging at pitches that looked to be outside the zone -- up high for a strikeout, and down low for a fairly weak outfield fly out. He needs to make opposing pitchers throw him more strikes.
As a team the Jays still seem to be striking out at a pretty high rate.

You're welcome, Cristian. Full-time job, no thanks, but sporadic advice to a redmontonian, of course.

So was I, Pistol, but in baseball, and apparently in radio, youneverknow. Mike Murphy -- a great guy and a fine play-by-play man -- kept asking me questions, so I stuck around. After a couple of innings, I got used to his rhythm and filled in with a few comments about the game. Time really flies when you're having that much fun.
Gerry, Robert and I have some road trip stories, several interviews and lots of pictures to share over the next few days. For now, I just want to thank everyone connected with the SeaWolves for the media passes and hospitality.
We're also grateful to the Fisher Cats' skipper, Mike Basso, pitching coach Rick Adair, all the players who chatted with us, and especially Murph, for inviting us up to the booth and for all those Batter's Box plugs.
