The result of too much coffee, access to a perl compiler and half an hour to kill.

Very simply, the number of posts/the number of threads.

I realise that this does not bear close sabermetric scrutiny and I am working on TC (Threads created), COA (comments above average) and KAP (Keyboard Abuse Points).

Fittingly Coach is batting a Bonds-esque 1.450 while Craig and Jordan are neck and neck for second place.

Personally I am in Huckaby-land.

You didn't think there were two of us, did you?

Ick! If you count *both* my names, I'm in second over all.

I've got to stop goofing off so much at work.

Let's see......an empty .328 for me. I suppose the Brewers would give me a big contract for that.
Coach - Sunday, June 15 2003 @ 11:37 AM EDT (#100063) #
Gwyn, don't worry about your BBA. Your technical expertise in the clutch is far more valuable than Huckaby's pitch-framing skills.

Is "comments above average" intended to reflect the number, or the quality? Greymatter does have a "Karma" function so readers can rate each others' posts, but fearing that everyone likes Jordan better, I've never enabled it.

Considering my 119 posts as Kent, it's obvious that I rarely have a thought without sharing it, so my lead is pretty safe.

whoops! Sorry about the bad math there. I should have done a manual inspection of the results before I posted them. I'll fix the script up before I generate the results again sometime in the future.

Oh, man. Thanks for pointing out that I'm in the Top 10 in terms of procrastination, Gwyn. ;)

I didn't mention it before, but I think it's really cool to see how much everyone has posted. Thanks for doing this, Gwyn!

Ouch. A buck-seventy-five. Usually I can hit my weight, at least!

Gwyn, thanks very much for an intriguing and fun list. And to the 68 (I think I counted correctly) separate posters who've contributed at least ten posts at the Box (and the many more who didn't make this list), a very sincere thank you as well! Batter's Box is zooming towards a figure that your founders never imagined we'd hit this season, if ever: 100,000 hits. Thanks to everyone for participating, and thanks to all the lurkers out there who come by and read quietly -- you're always very, very welcome to join in the chat.

I'd have to say, Batter's Box has quickly become my favorite site on the net. I was always a Blue Jays fan (vaguely remember the World Series'...I was seven for the second one) but never a serious one until last season (a strange time to jump on a bandwagon to say the least). I was intrigued with Ricciardi and his philosophy and the oyung talent coming up. Thatw as when I , basically, only knew of Wells and Hinske as the young talent. With a winning ball club and several other potential stars, I've become a big fan this year of both the Jays and baseball in general, paticularily the statistics sid eof things. Congratulations to all the serious members of the ZLC helping this site ona day to day basis especially Coach. Great Site!

I owe my .476 average to the following sound principles:

1. Keep both feet firmly planted in The Batter's Box.
2. Wait for an offering that you like, and hit it back up the middle.

Now, if I could only get rid of my habit of hitting lazy fly balls out to left field, I'd be able to get my average up to the Howie Clark level.
Gitz - Sunday, June 15 2003 @ 08:18 PM EDT (#100072) #
Let's see here. Coach is "out-hitting" me by a thousand points ... and I'm the opinionated one? New Math indeed!

I look at my .433 as my OPS, whereas my OPS in high school was about .850 or so. But I didn't strike out or walk much, until I got out of high school, then I started switch-hitting, learned the strike zone a bit, and did my own little Lance Berkman imitation in various summer and semi-pro leagues for a few years during my college days (which featured two failed tryouts at USC), until that stupid work/marriage thing got in the way. So I guess I'm trying to say I translate better in the real game than I do in the written one.

Actually, as always, I have no idea what I'm talking about; it's all sound and fury, and in reality my translations don't amount to much in either arena. Bummer.
Dave Till - Sunday, June 15 2003 @ 08:27 PM EDT (#100073) #
So I guess I'm trying to say I translate better in the real game than I do in the written one.

For me, the written game was, and is, my only hope. I learned that athletics was not my forte when I was 11 years old: at that time, I was, by general consensus, the worst player in the Don Victoria Softball League in North York. And this was before a practice grounder caught me in the mouth and knocked out one of my front teeth.

That's it, I've gotta start posting more. Being left off the list altogether...I've got some work to do. It's not the All Star break yet, so I still have time to put a good year together. Just a slow start. Hey, Safeco is tough on hitters.

I owe my .476 average to the following sound principles..

There's nothing sound about my .375, since I'm a pitcher and I can only assume that number represents my winning percentage. :)

You guys are just padding your numbers for the next statistical update. Don't fool yourselves.

How is KAP calculated?

Further, this seems like a fascist hireacrchy...well not exactly but there's no way I can win without the ability to create threads :p
_A - Sunday, June 15 2003 @ 10:05 PM EDT (#100078) #
The post above was number 28 for and this one's 29...Does this count for KAP? lol.
_Jonny German - Sunday, June 15 2003 @ 10:33 PM EDT (#100079) #
All very interesting... will this grow into awards?

Most Prolific Poster... okay, just write Coach on it.

Rookie Poster of the Month, for the best new poster.

Most Annoying Habit, for a habitual and annoying posting trait.

Andujar Poster, for the poster who surprises you.

Value Per Post, a quality / quantity measure.

Keith Law Award, for statistical analysis.
_Eric C - Sunday, June 15 2003 @ 10:43 PM EDT (#100080) #
I think KAP is calculated by the length of a post. So this post wouldn't get too many KAP's.
_Ryan - Sunday, June 15 2003 @ 10:54 PM EDT (#100081) #
I'm another one who had my post total split (the two guys above named Ryan are both me, hopefully). Sadly combining them still wouldn't put me above the Moffatt Line.

Hoo hoo! I made the list with a robust 0.037 BBA. I believe I just won the "Neifi Perez/Brandon Inge Love Child Award". I'd like to thank my parents and various gods. Also, in reviewing my previous posts on this site (there aren't very many), it turns out that I have hijacked more threads than I have contributed to. Thanks for putting up with me.

After many years lurking around the MLB message board and reading posts by such celebrities as "MannyLeeFan39283" and "MookieWilsonForever", this place has finally warmed my heart and opened my eyes to such wonderful fans of my favourite team. Kudos to you Coach and the rest of the zombies.

By the way, should we perhaps have a little roll call and reveal a little about ourselves for all the new readers? It's just an idea...
